How to charge for a Podcast illustration?
-
Hey everyone! I recently received a commission to illustrate for a U.K based Podcast channel (Once every two weeks as per episodes), how can I charge per illustration? It's a small-scale podcast.

The way I see it, either they can afford your prices, or you shouldn’t do the job. We as artists deserve fair wage, and no one can tell you what your time and abilities are worth. Only you can. Think about how long the illustration will take you, and how much you feel you should be paid to be fairly compensated and that’s your price. Really, a price should be agreed upon before taking the job, so that no one is left in the lurch at the last minute. -
@navya-raju Congrats! this is great news.

I agree you should charge based on how long it'll take you and how much you want to make per hour etc. or how much you want to do the job. You can also ask then what their budget is.
Personally I do usually give a discount for long term clients as it is steady/reliable work. So if I'm expecting there to be more than 5 or 10 I charge a bit less per piece. I think of it as a "bulk" rate
This works out anyway because I also tend to speed up as I go and the work gets faster and easier with time.

@navya-raju Congrats! Your style is super cute and would be great as podcast illustrations.
Totally agree with all of the above. If their budget is lower than you would like, you can also try to negotiate other things like creating simpler illustrations or having full creative freedom.
