Help! Looking for a Book Contract
-
Hi, guys! How's everybody doing? I apologize for not being around here lately. Been very busy with life lately. Been dealing with job and metal issues. It's a mess basically.
An independent author contacted me with a project that I'm very interested in. Previously my ex-agent (long story) would've handle the contract but now that I'm doing it solo, I don't have a contract to give. Does anybody have a sample contract that I could use? Any suggestions?
Thank you!

@Nyrryl-Cadiz Congrats! I'm entering some renegotiations with said agency so we'll see what happens (I may be doing things on my own for a bit, too!)
I used the graphic artist's guild handbook templates as a base and kinda changed a few things to suit my needs. I think they're a good starting point?

@braydin-hawlette Thank you! this is very helpful. Do let us know how your negotiations with them go.

@Nyrryl-Cadiz do you have copies of previous contracts with other authors that you could use to create a template for this contract?
Other resources you may want to check out:
-
Business and Legal Forms for Illustrators by Tad Crawford. (This book is basically written for a US market, so it may or may not be applicable to where you live.)
-
The AOI also provides contract help to their members. (They are based in the UK.)
-
Contact publishing attorneys in your area. They may be able to draw up a contract template for you to use with this author and any future authors you work with. Of course, this will cost money but you'll also have peace of mind knowing that you are working with knowledgeable professionals who can help you through the process.

@Melissa_Bailey thanks Melissa. I’ll check AOI as well.
