Late Introduction
-
Hi Everyone,
I joined SVS and the forum in early May, I think. And somehow never introduced myself
My name is Melissa Candrasaputra. Due to my long surname and the fact that there is always at least another Melissa or Mel around, I generally go by Mel C.
I live in Singapore with my husband and an almost 2-year old daughter. I have zero formal art education, but managed to cobble together my own learning from a combination of in person classes, online classes, books and doing observational drawing in my free time.
Despite my (lack of) art skill, I managed to somehow cobble together some income doing art related things after leaving my corporate job. The biggest of which, for now, is teaching Art Journaling in the community as well as conducting art journaling workshops for corporate and educational clients. While I love teaching art, illustration is really something I want to work towards. This gave me a massive imposter syndrome all the time especially when I have to refer to myself as a "professional artist" .
TL;DR: I sucked, therefore I am taking SVS classes to get better and closer to my dream job of writing and illustrating picture book.

@Melissa-Candrasaputra Good to hear about your path Mel C. I knew a Mel B and a Mel C in the UK.

@lucy_gow thank you

@PenAndrew I knew a Mel A. in my previous office. Should make an ABC book about all the Mels I've encountered.

@Melissa-Candrasaputra Yes that idea fits with my comic portraits I have been making.
