      Hi Guys I was wondering if anyone could recommend some books on composition? I have got Picture This by Molly Bang. Has anyone got any other suggestions?

      I am going do the video classes but I find I get much more out of them if I look at some books first. Just my way of learning - I'm a reader.

        @geekinm writing picture books by Anne Whitford Paul is great! Also "how to be a children's book illustrator". I also just purchased, 100 ways to improve your writing by Gary provost.

          Writing with Pictures by Uri Shulevitz (1985) discusses composition specifically in relation to Children's Books (but it is perhaps a bit old-fashioned).

                I have been listening to some old podcast episodes and Lee recommended "Universal Principles of Design" and I've just ordered a copy. I was looking for something to explain the rule of thirds etc.

                  @geekinm Hi geekinm!

                  Framed Ink: Drawing and Composition for Visual Storytellers by Marcos Mateu-Mestre is full of good tips

                  However I would recommend his 2021 Framed Ink 2.
                  Since it specifically talked rule of thirds and even halfs, quarters!

                  Here's a section on thirds:
