Last week - I launched an art book on Kickstarter!
-
Hi everyone!!!
If I've been a little MIA it's because I've been writing and illustrating a 160 art book called "How to Draw Adorable" and I just launched it on Kickstarter!
I've wanted to do a Kickstarter for 11 years but never had the courage to do it before finding SVSLearn. I listened to every podcast and got the Kickstarter playbook by @Will-Terry and now it's a real thing and it's live now! I can't thank SVS enough for this.
BONUS: I also just got the "project we love" sticker from Kickstarter
If you're interested this is the link:

And some snippets! I wanted to include illustrated tips, references and practice sheets because that's what I value most in my art books. There are nearly 1000 Illustrations!

@LauraA thank you!! I was surprised how much design work had to go into the Kickstarter page. But making the mockups was kinda fun

@Nyrryl-Cadiz thank you!!!!!!!! I've really poured my heart into this
οΈ (and my nights and my weekends
)

@carlianne did u also do the graphic design? or did u hire someone else? the book looks really adorable and polished.
-
@Nyrryl-Cadiz I hired a graphic designer for the book itself, I did the Kickstarter page myself.
My designer was amazing, she's done a ton of art book/how to books for a great publisher. We had to work really closely together on the book though since it's so illustration heavy and each tip had to go with each block of text or it would get confusing. So our process became that I did a super rough design pass so she could see how I wanted the information to connect. Then she made it pretty and made a template for me to use in InDesign. I pretty much followed her design as I built the rest of the book in InDesign and then she fixed everything I did lol
Luckily, in my day job I don't always have a graphic designer until the end of the process, so I've gotten used to using InDesign and doing rough design passes.
For the Kickstarter I was able to find book mock up templates on istock and I know photoshop well enough to put those together.
I also hired an editor for everything

@Kim-Rosenlof Yay! I hope so!! I wanted it to be all the things I want from my art books haha. SO LOTS OF PICTURES. There's honestly almost 1000 illustrations. I was like WHAT HAVE I DONE every time I needed to make edits
