So I’ve been brainstorming ideas to rabbit road race, and this one has really stumped me.
I’ve got a few thumbnails that I felt more drawn to, the first kids at the playground racing their stuffies down a slide, in playground toys as vehicles (roller skates, skateboard, dump truck). The second is cliche, but I just liked the idea of the tortoise and the hare, and the hares shocked expression after the turtle whizzes past him. The last one, which I feel like it has more story, is the rabbit stealing a kids bike and books it after he sees a giant cat, which turns out to be a pet store company van.

any thoughts on which one I should focus on, as july is quickly coming to an end?

@AngelinaKizz I love the kids racing stuffies concept! It’s brilliant!

@Asyas_illos is something my kids would totally do, which was what brought me to that one. I figured though that there wasn't enough story to it, or a why? Maybe I'm trying to think too hard about it. I initially did a paper sketch of the kids racing their stuffies... I think it needs something more.

I think the slide needs to be moved right, so that the race starts top 3rd rather than top center. But I still feel like it's missing something.

@AngelinaKizz yes, I think we need to see some of the race in action! Use that center page to decide on a focal point.

I agree that the stuffies racing down the slide sounds fun! I like your last idea too, but it seems a little complex to convey in one illustration. I feel like with the slide one you could have a lot of fun with the kid's expressions and body language as they root for their favorite contestant! It's the kind of thing my kids do all the time! 😂

@Asyas_illos awe thanks Asyas! I’m working with a split complementary color palette and aiming for muted Colors that get slightly brighter in the focal points. Here’s hoping it turns out how I envision it!

@AngelinaKizz I'm glad you went with this concept! This is so fun and totally what my kids would do too! I feel like Will and Jake are going to say, " hey guys, you couldn't think of anything besides the tortoise and the hare?"

Ok, so I’ve been playing with trying to achieve a colored pencil finish, and a reduced color pallette, and I’m not sure I’m overly happy with it. I know it still has a long way to go, but is it working?

@AngelinaKizz I think the colored pencil look is working but I think you could increase the range of values. I would push the playground much darker because it’s the same value as the ground and it makes a lot of the image meld together rather than popping out

@AngelinaKizz here’s a draw over and comparison. I recolored the playground, boosted the saturation of the ground, and boosted the saturation of the sky and gave it a bit of a gradient 164B160D-87E5-419F-9ACD-F0034A8843C3.jpeg 5BC662D2-F9F1-4F51-8750-E1680B14A7F6.jpeg

@Griffin thanks a bunch griffin! I hadn't worked on any of the lighting yet so this is great to see where you imagined it going. I've been working through this one so slowly, hopefully I can finish it before the 31st.

@AngelinaKizz I like the color palette, my only thing is that I feel like there are a lot of equal focal points, but maybe some good lighting can help that. Also perhaps a little more atmosphere on the rest of the jungle gym, so our characters come forward more? Overall though it’s looking really great 👍🏼

@AngelinaKizz There's a lot of energy and a variety of personalities in your image, which I think is great!

I agree with @Asyas_illos that there's a lot of equal focal points. There are many faces here, and they're looking so many different directions, that it's hard for me to decide where to look, or understand what the main story or main character is. What if some of the stuffed animals were looking ahead toward the lion and/or the finish line? And the lion looked more toward the finish line than lazily gazing into the sky?

                                            Good work, keep it up!
