So in response to some of my Inktober posts, other members have made comments like this : Dm on it ❣️@_the_universal_art .....I'm not exactly sure what this means or is or whether it's some kind of marketing scam.....anyone have an idea?

My lack of social networking knowledge is showing..... 😞

@randarrington It's a bot, and an annoying one at that. You might have noticed how the person who comments is never the same page as you're supposed to DM it too.

@randarrington just a bot. I get about 3 bot comments each post, it’s the worst. I just report them and block them

Thank you both for the information!!!!!! Exactly what do they get out of doing things like that? Any idea?

@randarrington my guess is followers and then maybe get people to pay for “exposure”

@randarrington They mostly want you to pay them for "exposure." It's the whole "you pay me x amount and I'll post your picture on my sight and get you x about of likes, comments, etc." It's mostly fake exposure though with their team liking, commenting, etc.

@randarrington what everyone else already said… but, I will add that if you are trying to grow a business, you want real followers. People who genuinely love your art and potentially want to buy it. So many people on social are all about numbers, and maybe because it helps them with the algorithm or something, but the numbers are empty and worthless if it’s all just “pay to get featured here” and “follow me so I’ll follow you.” (f4f) I always ignore all that stuff and sometimes I block the accounts if they get weird. There are some legit accounts, though that do share other people’s work. Inktober will feature people, artists doing “draw this in your style” and several other illustration and art accounts too. They don’t chase you down though. You usually find them and use their hashtag in your comments.

Thank you all very much!!! I assumed that people reaching out to you like that was something odd but couldn't figure out exactly how it would help them.

I'll try and look for those other options though...I would like to expand my exposure....
