      Hello everyone!
I was wondering if it is necessary to have a website so the illustration agencies could rep me or can a behance site do the job?
I’m in a state where I can’t afford a website right now and need representation at the same time to get work.

Here’s my behance link if anyone is curious

@Ayesha-Masood There are a variety of options for websites, possibly some free ones or at least free month trial. Behance might be okay, but the important thing is that it makes it easy for them to see your portfolio artwork, and nothing that you don't want in your portfolio for the job.

@Ayesha-Masood one thing you can start with is your webdomain. Around 12 usd per year and you can point to to wherever you would like. That way you already have an “address” to be found online. For example you can get one and aim it to your current behance page, and then when you get a website you point it there.

@Ayesha-Masood having a website is probably better because it allows you to organize and display your art better than behance's generic layout but a free website should work just fine. Wix or Weebly are good options with some nice customization.

Yup, definitely have a website as you need something that you have full control over. For instance, you never know if Behance will go away some day or change its policies, etc. also, a website is more professional.

@Ayesha-Masood Hope you're doing well today! Hope that today is not too stressful for you as you plan for the future! Just a quick glance as your behance really show's you're a great artist!

I echo a lot of what people have already said, having a website as a central hub can really display professionalism to agencies.

This article lays out some options for website creation for artists specifically.

If you already have the adobe creative suite (the full version), I believe there is also an Adobe Portfolio website that can connect to your behance account?

                https://portfolio.adobe.com/

                Hope this helps!

@alexw Thank you so much. Ill check out the link. Just a quick question, having wix.com or wordpress.com at the end of the web address seems unprofessional? Should i get a personal domain name right from the start?

@Ayesha-Masood It might, but I that might be up to the agency, or recruiters or hiring client.

Some I would assume would focus more on your content. Sometimes great artists are not recognized by their web development skills, but rather their illustration skills. In your situation, you should go for it making a free website.

There's plenty of time to ear extra cash in the future, save up to buy the purchased custom domain. And I think these websites allow you to have the free tier, and then later keep your same page, but change the domain to remove the "wix." or ".wordpress" prefixes if that makes sense.

                    TL;DR

                    Your URL today is:
                    wix.Ayesha-Masood.com

Later once you have the funds, your URL is:
                    AyeshaMasoodIllustration.com

Or whatever you decide it to be. 🙂
