"My career as a technical illustrator began over fifty years ago when I was just 15. Initially, I dreamed of creating fantasy illustrations using watercolor ink with my airbrush. However, life had other plans, and by the age of 24, I was a parent to two children who needed my support. Over the years, I dedicated myself to technical illustration, a field that provided the mathematical certainty I could rely on. Despite receiving formal education through college and university courses over sixteen years, I sought more guidance in areas where I felt less confident, particularly in capturing the correct expressions on characters for more creative projects.

I'm here at the School of Visual Storytelling to enhance my storytelling and composition skills, which I'm passionate about deepening. I am humbled by the talent around me and eager to learn from and contribute to this community of artists."

In my brief introduction, I did not mention I have four children aged 45, 43, 27, and 25. I remarried seven years ago to a wonderful woman who is the love of my life. She is an art teacher for grades K-12. We have much in common and love collaborating on art projects together.

@Katt yes I do use adobe illustrator for the past 35 years but my vector art starts as pencil line work that I blur and sharpen in photoshop to approximate ink strokes. Then I convert that to vector art. I’ve tried using tablets and iPads with the stylus on the glass surface but it just feels so artificial. There’s nothing like a 2B pencil on the arches hot press watercolor paper.

@thomas-young yes, I do mostly traditional, it feels so much more calming to me. Although I am incorporating digital for effects. I tried Adobe Illustrator/doing vector, and I was so overwhelmed with the options/user experience, I just couldn't get it. Maybe some day in the future I'll get it.
