Magazine suggestions? 3x3?
-
Hi everyone,
Has anyone ever subscribed to the 3x3 Magazine, and found it useful to what is going on in the illustration industry?
If not, what other periodicals have you found to be insightful for the industry (picture book OR editorial)? Thanks so much. -
@Katt I'm not familiar w 3x3, I guess depends what kind of illustration you are thinking of getting into. One magazine that I like is Character Design Quarterly. Its expensive, and I don't subscribe, but buy used copies from ebay for issues I want to read. Another great resource is your library and their online services. Our local one has Libby and Hoopla, and you can get a lot of digital magazines from them for free. Which I like, because magazines end up taking a lot of space and are heavy when we move.

@Katt I use to pickup art mags; 3x3 could have been one of them. It certainly helps to see what the big players are doing. Maybe you'd also enjoy browsing these periodicals/sites:

@MirkaH CDQ is the BEST!
I do subscribe to CDQ and it's my very favorite thing to receive every 3 months. It can be considered expensive, but I think it also depends where you live because it's coming out of the UK I believe. It's not your typical magazine though, it's more of a book than magazine. There's zero adds, and 100ish pages of character design education, and it's a thick card stock color. To me it's worth it, and works out to about $15.00 Canadian a publication with shipping. I certainly can't get a book this nice in the bookstore.
There's a free issue on their website so you can see exactly what you'd be getting.
