Our favorite paper and art supplies maker, Strathmore, reached out to me to demo, record and edit a 4-10 minute YouTube video showing off their Smooth Bristol Cards:

      https://youtu.be/gTOFljOZIgU?si=PCmJTKDqc9uaxHGF

I talk about my creative process--brainstorm, sketches, tools, getting thru the UGLY phase and show off the final illustration...

"Cool story bro BUT what's in it for me??"

      1. I've worked with Strathmore for years so I have some comfort there but I made sure to ask a big question that wasn't included in the brief they sent me..."What beats or product info would you like me to make sure I touch on?" That question went a long way and I knew exactly what the client wanted.

      2. I made this video into segments--short bits that keep attention as they flow from one thing to the next BUT also short bits that can stand alone when edited further into a short, reel, tiktok, etc. One product that can drive more value, clicks, shares, sales, etc

      3. I gave the client multiple exports of the main video file--different sizes that they can use in different ways (website, youtube, etc). I also provided a thumbnail option (which wasn't an ask) just to lighten the load from their side. All to reduce friction on the client side and hopefully make them feel like it's an easy experience working with me.

      To summarize for other projects:
Ask questions that will help the client share their message.
Break things down that are more bite size when possible.
If it's easy, over deliver your final goods or product to reduce any friction the client may have.

      High Fives-Anthony

@AnthonyWheeler Beautiful illustration, Anthony! I really enjoyed watching the process- it’s so inspiring. It makes me want to try traditional drawing myself, even though I find it a bit intimidating.

@AnthonyWheeler this is great! And regarding the overdelivering, that can even make the client start to offer jobs they didnt knew you(we) were capable of. The usual “oh I didnt knew you also did that” which can lead to more opportunities.

@AnthonyWheeler Your video inspires me to get rolling on my cards this year! Thank you Anthony! I have a list in my cart for art supplies... just need to take the plunge and just do it. 🙂
