@Lynn-Larson Welcome to the party! 😃

Good job with the first assignment - I also love the little guy who's stretching upwards - so cute. I'm wondering if a squirrel's legs would invert inwards like that if he was up on two legs? Not sure, I'd have to see reference imagery to know for sure. Also - not sure what that dark area is in his crotch area... it looks somewhat phallic to me! haha

The top single head one reminds me of Will Terry's style actually, very round and cute. Was his work an influence? Because of the roundness though I'd say to me he looks more bear-like than squirrel. To keep a squirrel look I think the pointier nose is a defining characteristic.

@DanetteDraws Thanks! The dark area is just a bit of shadow for the tail...i had cleaned up the drawing after hehe. The hind legs are a bit different, the top part being a bit longer.

I did just finish the video with the bunny, so probably some influence there. I had issues with the nose, so back to the sketching board...nose pointier, ears bigger i think

@Leontine-Gaasenbeek YES!!! I love it! It looks really great now. I see you've added in her teeth too, which is a nice touch as well.

I think you could've kept the eyes as large as they were (in overall size), but perhaps she does look more human with the most recent changes.

            Are you happy with it?

@DanetteDraws Thanks for your positive comments. i love it how we push each other to get the best out of every illustration, even if its an assignment for practice. I like it better because she looks way healthier now, you can see that she's also happier. The nose is better, but the left eye is a bit to small. overall I am happy with it. Thanks again!

@Leontine-Gaasenbeek Someone is so getting coal! Very cute mad Santa! The only thing i would adjust is the mustache...seems like a very big gap between the bottom of the nose and the top of the 'stache 🙂

                          Assignment 2 - Foxes

I really struggled with this today. Quite frustrating. This was my initial attempt

Made several more attempts, but they were just foxes, not doing anything human-ish. I went on pinterest and found a ballerina, and this is what i came up with 🙂 I almost gave up after the first round of drawing, but so happy i stuck with it today!

Nicely done! love the variety. and the foxes are so much fun. Try to keep your work clean, then it 'reads' better, and is more appealing to watch. go for the next one!

                                            svs-childrens-illustration-class-assignment03.jpg

@Lynn-Larson Your very nice gestural dancing fox inspired me to draw mouse dancers for my assignment. xD Good job on not giving up, but instead seeking reference!

@Andrew-Thomas Solid approach. I think the sketch in the corner is your strongest one, insofar as balance goes. I like how you did the hands and feet on the bigger one, but the centre of gravity is somewhat off. It almost looks as though the squirrel is bending away from us. It's like he just got punched in the gut, which would knock him off kilter--but much more slight than that, however. Does that make sense? To correct that, I'd bring his feet back under him a bit, or make them longer, and/or have his haunches look like they're sitting on the floor more solidly. It might be helpful for you to practice gesture sketching and finding the line of gravity, since you're studying animation. But really good work overall. Keep it up--post assignment two, eh? 😜

@Karim-Benyagoub I like the control you have of your pencil and that you vary your line thickness. Good idea to create a male, female, and child fox--they're super cute. The only thing I might suggest to you, would be to experiment with pushing the body shape even more--like try drawing really wild and interesting shapes, and seeing if you can get that shape to look like a fox. Oh right--I'm under no illusions that my own work is amazeballz yet either, but practicing looking critically at art helps me improve my own art, too. And not all critiques will be spot-on, either. That's okay. We're all learning. And encouragement is always needed and welcome as well!
