First thumbs for Thursday
-
@bharris @smceccarelli - Thank you Brittany and Simona! - very useful feedback - I was feeling 1 and 3 were possibly weak and decided to try some more thumbnails - 2 and 4 were the best of the second batch - I agree 2 is the most interesting but it is not successfully hitting the prompt - I will keep going with the thumbnails and see if I can find a better angle - Thank you both for taking the time - really helpful to me
-
@Kevin-Longueil "Friends will guide you to your next opportunity" reads the fortune - wondering if "friends" and "guide" are coming across in this version (these are the same characters from a drawing i did a while back called Finn and the Fiddler) Thank you for your help
-
@Kevin-Longueil I think this works really well! Both the adventure aspect and the guiding are captured nicely, the composition is great (I love the way the trees are framing the subject, and the shape of the clouds in the background), values are supporting the focus point in an excellent way.
-
Nice work that's going to look fantastic.
-
I agree with @smceccarelli ...I like your previous thumbs and overall agree with previous comments.. I really like the idea of using a ship/voyage to convey opportunity. To me this last thumb is the strongest, it really expresses the quote well and it's got lovely linework already
-
this is coming along nicely!
-
@smceccarelli Thank you Simona! - i was hoping you would let me know if it improved or not
@evilrobot Thank you William!
@Dulcie Thank you for the feedback Dulcie - and congratulations! i just watched the Third thursday video - great job
@Russ-Van-Dine Thank you Russ! -
Just sharing my progress
Working on the foreground and middle ground (without the figures present) - 3rd thursday is coming fast - looking forward to summer when i will have more time for drawing!-
-
@Kevin-Longueil It's looking great - wonderful textures on the bark!
-
@smceccarelli Thank you Simona! - ( this is a bit off the subject but i love your Weit painting with the wasp - love his expression - you have created such a rich and wonderful world - very impressed)
-
@Kevin-Longueil Thank you! One day I will write that book - but it will be a young adults book, and I do not trust my writing skills so far at the moment - better stick with drawing
-
These are wonderful! Your trees have great movement, can't wait to see the added characters
-
Those trees in your last image are absolutely awesome!
-
@Lynn-Larson @Dan-Tavis Thank you both! Great to get such encouragement!
Just started on the figures and the boat - still very sketchy - shrunk the boat down quite a bit which seems to give it a lonelier feeling - not sure if i like it better or not with the smaller boat - might go back to original size..... any opinions? Thanks again -

This is really turning into a masterpiece those trees look fantastic. You have so much story telling going on here it's really good.
-
@Damien-Rambacher Thank you Damien! - i went with the smaller boat - it really helped to get a second opinion so thanks again.
@evilrobot Than you so much William! - such a huge compliment from someone i respect - really made my daySeems like i need another week or so for this - i feel like the things i did early in the piece are very rough now that i have worked on the two main figures - i think it will be a late night tonight - thank you everyone for your help and encouragement!
-
Really nice piece! Great work,Kevin!!
-
@Thrace thank you Thrace - just sent in my Drawing - good luck to you and everyone!

@Kevin-Longueil Wow!!! This is phenomenal. I am always amazed by your drawing skills Kevin. I really think that if you start illustrating YA novels especially, you'll start winning awards. Beautiful work.
