I'm feeling annoyed at this sketch --putting it online on my blog made me see everything that is wrong with it--especially the arm holding the spoon, which is too short and small. But that's life.0_1481763138116_Bowl - Dec 14 2016 - 6-17 PM.jpg 0_1481763178102_36e15d2c48fcfa79173d29fb2f8ebbb8.jpg

@anthemsweet Fron the looks of it, your initial scaffolding or construction lines were off. For example if you were to drop a plumb bob or line down from the girls mouth it would intersect her hand, in your drawing her hand is way too far left! It's hard work but I hope this helps? Regards, Rob.

Yes, the body is a little off, but you did capture her features beautifully. The face is a tiny bit shorter than in the original - but those eyes are really beautiful.
Bouguereau was a big study subject at school. The two main points were that he is a master of diffuse lighting and that he achieves volume by changing the color temperature - warmer where the flesh faces us, colder where it turns away. This latter is a trick that I find myself using to this day 😉

@RobinSlee Yes, you're right--I saw that after I had posted it and wondered how I had missed it!

@smceccarelli Yes--I'll be looking at him more. I somehow don't like his art very much, but for my education I know everything he does is absolutely correct.

@anthemsweet Yes, he is somewhat overly romantic in his subjects - not today's taste. But he was a rock star in his time - one of the most successful artists while alive.
