Hi! I was wondering if anybody can tell me exactly what programs one needs to be able to take SVS courses successfully? Or direct me to a list that is hidden to me. I have Adobe Illustrator, but it seems nothing that I've encountered thus far is for that program. I need to make a better plan, and get the right stuff to go forward. Thank you in advance.

Program specific courses tend to be in Photoshop as Illustrator tends to be more for graphic design work it doesn't get mentioned too much. A lot of the material will also apply to traditional mediums. Any digital program that leans towards painting would work you would just need to adapt the information about certain tools and shortcuts

So it all kind of depends on why you are here and what medium you intend to work in. Is it for general art skills like drawing, composition, color? Do you want to paint digitally or would you rather work in illustrator, which is a bit different than what we think of as painting? I don't believe they have Adobe Illustrator courses, but if you want to do illustrations with adobe illustrator, you could just take the courses geared toward art principles and business practices and learn illustrator somewhere else. In that case you'd probably be sketching with good old fashion pen/pencil and paper.

If you want to draw and paint digitally, here are some programs to consider:

          Adobe Photoshop ($10 monthly subscription)
          Krita (Free)
Clip Studio Paint ($48-$210 one time payment, depending on the version)
Procreate if you have an appropriate IPad. ($5.99?)

@tessw Thank you! I need a platform on which to take the courses that matches exactly. I am not advanced enough technologically to adapt to another programming. I want to learn exactly what Will is teaching, at the moment, but have finally realized that I need to follow his recipe to the letter. Later I may be more grounded. I haven't yet run into anything that is 10 dollars for Photoshop, but maybe I will.

@anthony-keyes Then in that case, I would go with photoshop, though I also think there is a course for Procreate.

You can get a monthly subscription to photoshop and lightroom for $9.99. It's under the photography plan on their website. https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/plans.html?single_app=photoshop&promoid=B16P41VJ&mv=other

You should actually look into Rebelle if you don't want to invest in the monthly PS payment planI use almost more than PS these days and it is a one time purchase that is far cheaper. The painting engine is light years ahead of PS

Everybody, thank you very much for helping me. I received the answer that I needed. I am so new at this realm of the art world, that I previously didn't even know what questions to ask. I'm getting there in baby steps, and I appreciate your support. I will take all this information, join Ps to my subscription, and inch my way along.

@tessw One more question, if you can. My options say "Creative Cloud Photography Plan" for one year. It has Photoshop and Lightroom, 2GB of storage, and companion mobile apps, for 10.62 a month...from what I previously said I wanted to do, is this to what you were referring?

Yes, that's the one. You only need to use Photoshop for art purposes. You get Lightroom in that package too, but that's basically just for tweaking photography. I think that's the best deal for the full version of Photoshop.
