Pricing art work
-
Hello all,
So I did this piece a few months ago and now have it hanging on my wall but when I originally posted it on social media I had people asking to buy it. Now I dont plan on selling this one cause it means alot to me as it was the first painting I really completed sense 2013. But my question here is if I were to paint ones similar to this how much should I sell them for? It's oil paint on 18×18 canvas and took about 6 to 7 hours to finish are they worth attempting to sell or should I focus on something else?
Thanks for all and any responses -
Hi there,
I know this is long but this is my best advice and even though it's geared to freelance I still think it applies. Remember - you can always raise your prices but lowering them will anger your previous buyers and signal potential buyers you're going down in flames. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENJo1_5TsPY&t=10s

Sell giclee prints instead.

@will-terry thank you! This is actually the first video of yours I ever saw and how I ended up on these forums and svs learn I will watch it again and see where I end up
@jimsz I will look into that and see what is in my area.. As far as that goes would I just charge the markup from the cost of prints that I do? It seems like a valid option how many prints should I go with? Just one or multiple? -

You could go with just an open edition where you have many prints to sell or a limited numbered edition. You could even place the image on an online site that sells artists prints and receive a cut of the selling price and people could order it there. There are many options.
