I've been reading "The Illusion of Life" about the history of Disney animation and noticed that in the 1930s and 40s, the Disney inking department was staffed entirely by women. All of the animators and designers were men but once the men finished drawing, it was sent to the women to ink. I've been working on improving my inking and this was encouraging because clearly back in the 1930s and 40s, they thought inking was so simple even a woman could do it! I'm saying this, of course, tongue in cheek, but it is fun and hopeful sometimes to see how much life has changed.

Many of the men were also pretty busy with WW2!

There is a book dedicated to the women of Disney's Ink and Paint Dept.

inking can be hard. I actually love doing it, but its very specialist. though when the way i learnt to hold a brush is somewhat different than many people seem to teach...more japanese style i guess you could call it.
but hats off to the women and men who can create the brush line time after time after time, without a wobble and the same width

@jimsz That’s so cool. I’m putting that on my “next to read” list.
