Fun way to Finish...
-
So after listening to the podcasts, I was thinking more about "draw 100" things, and also finishing work to have an end product.
I'm new to digital painting, and I just gave it a try for the first time last month. I was really intimidated by diving into something big, so I thought I'd start off small. The first thing that popped into my head to paint was silly jokes. I'm such a child at heart and I think jokes make awesome illustration prompts.
Anyway, now that I've been getting the hang of things I've decided to draw 60 of these little jokes to work on style, as well as having something to post to social media.
But then I started thinking how fun it would be to have a collection of them in one place. I use a photo company to put together little soft cover 6x6 books of photos for my kids. There are 60 pages in them, and the best part is they are $10, the quality is good (sometimes the colors can be slightly off) but for that price I don't mind.
But I thought I would share this idea with you guys. It might take me awhile to finish the first 60 of these jokes, but hey... only 56 more to go right.
Anyone else have a fun way of putting together their work for personal use?

Wow! These are very cohesive for your first attempts at digital painting! I love the taxi one. What's the name of the photo company, if you don't mind?

Really cool designs and idea. Once you finish the book I will definitely buy a copy

@artwithashley I have been working on the same concept for a little bit too. I love the way yours look. It will be a fun(ny) book when you get it all done. I know your children will cherish it. My children are groaning at the jokes I am using. But I love a good pun! My favorite right now is, "What time is your dentist appointment?....Tooth-hurty." As I have a tween in braces and lots dental appointments to keep, I am getting a lot of mileage out of this one.

@Teju-Abiola - Thanks for your comment. I've been trying to figure out what style I want to go with and this just kinda happened and I've been enjoying playing with it.
The photo company is called Chatbooks. They have a few different ways they work.
- You can do a subscription based process and every time you reach 60 images on Instagram you can have a book made (which is also a cool idea if you are portfolio building)
- OR you can use Facebook, or your camera roll from your phone. I prefer this way. I usually just make new album on Facebook, add my 60 images, and then connect my album from Facebook to Chatbooks. That way I'm only ordering the 60 images I want and not ALL the photos from one social media platform.
Here's a link if you want, you can get your first book free.

@Gary-Wilkinson - you just made my day! What a nice comment. I was really only thinking of printing this for personal use but I'd be happy to just send you a copy. Or it might be fun to do a trade?? Your work is amazing! Did you send out your postcards, I'm excited to hear how it goes.

@JennyJones - Yay I'm so glad I'm not alone in my sense of humor! I'd love to see some of your work/jokes.
My kids are still little, but I hope one day they will appreciate a good pun. Sounds like your tween is in for it with the teeth jokes. I never had braces but I did have a retainer, I threw it in the trash a few too many times for my parents to think that was funny. Hopefully one day they will appreciate you for their straight teeth!!

@artwithashley I'd love a copy of this book when you get done... some little simple goofy that would be great for this project..
A horse walks into a bar... (already laughing at the image into my head)..'
I think stuff from this page should give you the inspiration to keep it going. Lots of good stuff here. I'm just now getting back into drawing, and hope to one day do this sort of thing. I'm working on super basic fundamentals though..like ..how to not draw a wobbly line, and make a proper ellipsis in perspective. Going to sign up for SVS in probably 6 months, when I can put stuff on paper.

@artwithashley Sure a trade would be good when we both have a finished product
Still working on sorting out the postcard, just trying to sort out the cost of printing and getting them sent. I would do it myself if I lived in the US
