After paying too little attention to my blog, I thought it may be helpful or at least insightful to make a post about how I created my most recent piece "Misunderstood Monster" for this month's competition. Many of you may have already seen a lot of the progress images and well as helping me improve the painting and help guide it to completion, so I give a lot of thanks for that.

If people find it useful then I will add further tutorials/how I painted it posts for my other work and if you have any thoughts on how I could improve my explanations or teachings, then it would be really helpful. You can find the post below 🙂

@gary-wilkinson Awesome! Next time you should also do a time lapse with it.

@gary-wilkinson Just read through it and it reads great! It's also a really nice piece. Since I'm going to move on from color studies pretty soon, I may give your tutorial a try and then I can let you know if I have any questions. Thanks for doing this!

Great to hear that it been useful for some 😃 I rarely do timelapses, but it's a great idea, although my painting process can sometimes gets a bit messy....

@gary-wilkinson Just read your tutorial. Thanks so much for sharing your process. I'm still figuring out mine and it's helpful to see what is working for others. Will you be sharing more tutorials?

@johanna-kim There are many different processes that work and I often find my self jumping between a few depending on the subject and the result I want to have. Sam Nielson has a great video that goes through different processes and their pros and cons, but a lot of it is finding out through your own trial and errors.

Yeah I hope to add more tutorials, is there any specific painting that you would like to see the process of creation?

@gary-wilkinson Thanks for the tip; I'll check out Sam Nielson's video. As for future tutorials, my main issue is with composition, so it would be great to see your planning process for any of your illustrations.

@johanna-kim Composition is such a tough subject. The svslearn one is probably one of the best I have seen about composition so if you haven't seen that already I recommend you check it out.

I will try my best to talk more about composition in my future tutorials, but it's not my strongest point so hopefully I won't be teaching bad practices.

I just uploaded another tutorial on my blog as part of my 100 kids project, and although there isn't much to talk about in terms of composition I still hope it can help others 🙂
