      Hi guys!

      Just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. Looking to enroll in SVS this year to get my feet under me a bit more as I move toward doing some freelance illustration as a side gig. I've been listening to the 3PP podcast for a bit now, and I kept hearing them say what a great artists community was here, and boy does it show!

      I'm currently sorta stuck in the comic book genre, but I'm looking to move out of that more toward book illustration and concept art. Please fill free to nail me with critiques when I post stuff, as I really want to focus on improving this year. I'll make sure I do return the favor as often as I can 😃 My site is in my signature if you want to check it out.

      Looking forward to meeting you guys! Talk soon!

      -Aaron

        Hi!
        I've been away from the forums for a while, but I miss it and want to be on here more regularly again. Yes, there are a lot of helpful and talented people here. They've given great advice when I've posted drawings for critiques. It's a very welcoming and supportive group.

        It will be fun to see you develop a new style. "How to discover your style" is an excellent class by Lee White that you might want to check out. He takes something that's often seen as an abstract topic & really nails it down. He gives examples of what he's talking about, so it's easy to understand, and provides good advice on how to find / develop a style of your own.

        You also might want to look out for the monthly contest here on the forums. It's interesting to see everyone's take on the topic/theme.

          Definitely planning on hitting that class, AND the monthly contest 😃 I want to really pound some fundamentals as well, try to get some of my core work more solid. Definitely looking to get involved here 😃

            @aaron-pierce
            For fundamentals, I'm taking the Creative Composition 2.0 class (it's a remake of an older version of the class, so you can skip the other one).

            I'm still in the beginning sections, and it's gone over a lot of good design & composition fundamentals already. It's reminding me of things from a Graphic Design class I took years ago.

                @miriam I'll definitely be taking that one. I'm going back even further than that, though, starting with Jake's How to draw Everything class. I grew up in the kind of household where art was a waste of time. They were fine with my doodles, but any study or classes were sheer silliness, so I'm largely self taught. I'm going all the way back to the basics to get the wobbly little foundation I cobbled together evened out so I can really build on it lol. Loving it so far 😁
