So far so good with my miniature paintings. I'm using acrylics which has been more fun than I thought as I'm so use to oils. 🙂

@Jason-Bowen I am use to acrylics but plan to try oils in the summer (as I have no ventilation inside). Any tips for oils?

@Heather-Boyd you can use oils without the need of any spirits or turps. If you dip your brush in oil mixed with a few drops of clove oil it will keep your brush from drying.

Also use artist oils as student oils are filled with chalk and other fillers which makes them weak for colour mixes.

Always gesso the canvas as pre bought canvases are generally just sprayed with a primer not gesso.

Some tips that might help 😁

@Jason-Bowen so spirits or turps are the reason for the ventilation? Any kind of oil for my brush? My friend bought me probably student grade -"Artcolor", not sure? I also have really old oils my don't remember grandmother had at least 20 years ago -"Selectone Paints Limited". I can squeeze the tube and there is still movement inside.

                      Anyways, thanks 🙂

@Heather-Boyd yeah traditional oil paint is just oil and pigment. You don't need to thin paints with turps or anything to start as some say. You can easily paint all in one go or just scub the paint on if you want to block colours in. It's sounds more complicated than it is. 👍
