I don’t see a thread yet for the class by Gina Lee. Seriously, SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOD! Loved everything about it. Love the linked videos, the homework assignments. Loved the examples, the super in depth explanation of trendcasting. It’s so important in licensing! If you’re an emotional buyer, which 90% of the people in my life are, we buy what’s on trend. Or on trend for us. Meaning, if it’s the perfect color, says the perfect thing, what our kid is into, seasonal. We are shoppers and buy because we like to freshen up things. And if you’re not on point, I ain’t buying it. Or vise versa, they aren’t buying my stuff if I don’t know the exact shade of blue. And girl, I know exactly what blue and orange you’re talking about. It’s not auburn colors! It’s a dusty muted blue, with mustard, dark muted red, blush, and a light blue (which can sometimes be aqua or robins egg).

Great class. Please please please have her do an interactive class if she can fit it in her schedule. @Jake-Parker !!!!!!!! Pleeeeeaaaassssseee. I listen to Skillshare (it’s okay, i subscribe to both cause I’m crazy, and you guys don’t talk about repeating patterns for fabric!) people about licensing too, and she’s by far the best and easiest to listen to.

@Whitney-Simms I too subscribe to Skillshare and have taken several classes focused on this industry. I love Gina's class and found it super, super practical. Working hard to get my work out there and I would love to join you in this thread.

@Whitney-Simms have you taken her first class? I'm planning on starting that one. Is the first one a prereq to watch the second one?

@shinjifujioka I would take the first class before taking the second. It kinda builds on each other. there are a few follow up assignments, but I wouldn’t worry about completing the assignments before watching the next one. It’s all really great information about licensing.

@Whitney-Simms I'm just watching this one now. I love making patterns and they mostly just sit on my computer or on sheets of paper going nowhere. I speak to my Sister to find out what's trending and I've shot a lot of photos on the catwalk so I keep up with London and Paris fashion week. Now I feel like knowing this stuff could be useful after watching Gina's class. Just hard to work out where I want to commit my time.

There's a pattern school in the UK that's online, I'm on their mailing list. Make it in Design. Worth checking out. Here's the link - Make It In Design Website

@sigross It's always hard where to spend your time. I guess it just depends on where you want to go and who you want to be. But those are the million dollar questions. I will take a look at Make it in Design for sure! thanks for the heads up. And don't let those patterns sit and collect dust. Slap those suckers on products in society6 or another print on demand site. Also, there is spoonflower. A print on demand fabric company. Make sure they are seamless repeats for that site though. They have a factory in Germany too! That way they can ship easier in Europe. Best of luck!

@Whitney-Simms Thanks for the info on spoonflower. I did have a go with Society6 a couple of years ago but their percentage is too low for me, considering that I was the one doing all the work. I use Contrado in the UK for POD products as the factory is just down the road to make it easy to get samples. They offer decent wholesale prices even with small orders. It's good to be able to visit the factory where the stuff is being made. I prefer the idea of licensing art to manufacturers and they do the selling. I'm not good with that side of the business. But I am improving in this area. If I didn't have a photography agent I'd be broke!
