Dream Portfolio Homework -3rd Inline
-
Thanks for your observations and encouragement -just previewed your collection -your Leaf Monster reminds me of a work I wanted to create.
-
Thank you!
- I am heading straight to rework because I intend to start a website in the fall and I want to start off with 3 finished work (in a relatively similar style) lols.
-
Good for you for doing the work, I really need to finish. I have compiled but not assessed. I think your pieces belong aside your dream portfolio
-
Very nice selections! The analysis is not one of my strengths, but I do see a common thread in the themes of the artwork you chose. They all seem to have that warm and fuzzy feeling that creates a sense of comfort and safety. There is a really nice softness to the artwork too.
-
Thank you -at the end of the day who doesn't want to curl up warm and fuzzy if not figuratively at least lols. Analysis isn't as difficult but finding the right words or terms I do struggle with.
-
Thank you
- Just start by what stands out and then assess individually. A little at a time.
-
Just wanting to take a break from 'lurking' to thank all you guys for sharing your dream portfolio exercises. I have been stuck on this so long because I really have no clue how to go about 1) picking the images 2) analysing the images. I don't know how to articulate what I like or see in 'art terms' if that makes sense. so end up by saying ooh I like cute cats or something like that. Reading through your thought processes and then referring to the images is so helpful - you have no idea. Thanks again!
-
So I reworked the Dino work and may touch it up with open feedback (now and later) after some master studies. My biggest blunder in getting work done is fearing I won't like it. But I like this -it was fun and I got to draw my dandelions the way I like. Hope you like it!
-
Thank you -your so sweet! I actually had more observations but I thought past 10 would be a bit excessive since the other two did 3-4.
-
Wow, the additions to the dino piece make a big difference! It was an engaging image before, but it felt like more of a study. Now it has narrative and it feels very fresh and contemporary. Well done!
-
Thank you -It is amazing how an additional character and a few other objects or details can create a narrative.
-
So I reworked February's Love contest and this is what I came up with, a before and an after. I still struggle with my edges however I am working through it. Now I can get started on some master copy studies and will post here.
Thanks

First WIP Master Study
Finished up placement and sketch.
I learned I like sketching in more angular lines I find them easier and more dynamic. -
@Heather-Boyd Your sketch looks great! Who is the artist for that piece? I love the style.
-
Her name is Teressa Ong. I particularly like this work but not necessarily many of her others but anyways.

I like this work of hers as well:

Iโm uncertain what type of brush she uses? Best guess is a dry brush and or pastel. I will have to get as close as I can because I donโt have her brushes.
-
To understand the values a bit -not everything there is replicated.
-
Progressing is fun!
-
This is great! A good reference, Teressa has some very solid work to study. I ought to take a page from your book and do some value studies as I feel like it's one of my weakest points.
And I have an annoying question, sorry, but what brushes/application are you using? -
Haha itโs all good, Corel Essential 5 and a square soft x pastel and a hard one Iโm pretty sure. But I sketch in the grainy cover pencil.
-
Thanks. Honestly I dislike having to ask that question, but Iโm still on the hunt for the right combo of brushes for me. That is ones I like using. I keep chopping and changing between Photoshop and Procreate. However it just goes to show itโs the artist not the tool
I really love how youโve replicated the texture. Well done.
