Hopefully there are some GIMP users here! I need to cut my double spreads in half to make single pages in order to upload them to KDP on Amazon to make a print book. I found only one answer or tutorial for my specific problem but I am still having trouble. I followed the directions given and was able to cut the right side off fine. When I tried the directions to cut off the left side, it cut off the right again! Over and over.

      Here's what I did:

      1. I used any rectangle select tool on the image.

      2. In Tool Options: I changed the position and size drop downs to percent and pixels.

      3. I changed the position to 0,0 (%) to tell it to start selecting at 0% Y and 0% X.

      4. I changed the sizt to 50, 100 for 50% width and 100% height.

      5. The shift, ctrl C to cut and shift, ctrl V to paste. The left half was separated into a new page.

      Perfect!

Now! It said to get the right half to change the percentages to 50, 100

I got the left half again! (several times).

Then I tried to flip the image 180 degrees and do it again, thinking I would get the correct half and could flip it back but I got the left half again!

How can I get the right half on it's own?

Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong? I really want to get my book formatted so I can upload it for print on demand. I'm not very patient, I'm afraid.

Thanks for any help someone can give me!

I've not used Gimp much, but I know it's similar to Photoshop.
What I've done in a similar situation is:

        1. Open one of your spreads (lets say spread one)

        2. Then "save as" a new document and call it something like: Page one.

        3. Next, crop the canvas down to size to one page (the left side) then save again, but keep the name the same "Page One". (This save is just to update the file to a single page)

4.1 To do the right side, simply reopen the original spread again (spread one) click: save as, call it Page two. And crop that down to the the right page, and save.

        Does that make sense?
In short it just a lot of cropping and resaving.

There are other ways to do this too if this doesn't work for ya

Here, I made this for you:

I'm using Photoshop in this video, so it looks different and the tabs and tools may be in different spots too. But this can be done in Gimp. Good Luck @Marsha-Kay-Ottum-Owen

@Squirrel-Size Thanks! I was going to try that first but was afraid I couldn't get it exactly half. The mid point was a fraction so the halfway was something like 62.something. I could only make it to 61 or 63. Will that matter? Thanks again!

Thanks, @Squirrel-Size . I was able to cut them all in two and they are in a file for my husband to upload for me 🙂 One more thing I know how to do now 🙂
