FEBRUARY CONTEST: NIGHTFALL

Amazed by all that stunning work
My picture is something I love to do in summer: Just be in nature, look at the stars and enjoy the moment... -
@jdubz So funny love it!

My 1st post here.. so not sure if I am posting it the right way.
Meet Nina, a girl who loved night and darkness as she saw night as the time to break-free and not be under the scanner of light, do what she loves to do.
Nina loved reading books and sing all night, but she was a terrible singer and wasn’t encouraged much by others to pursue her passion. To do what she loved the most she escaped to woods every night and sang aloud all night.
Hope you encourage Nina to pursue what she loves...Insta account- www.instagram.com/illustrate_daily

This is from me. I am a real night owl!

@deborah-Haagenson I've been working to improve my facial features for this style, so I updated my entry. It really is hard to transition from traditional artwork to digital illustration, so I empathize with everyone who is trying to make this change. I do continue to see improvement and will keep working at this until I get it right!

Hi, just checking - if my illustration is a spread from a book is it ok to put the wording on with the image (a couple of rhyming lines) or does my entry just have to be the illustration on its own? Thanks.
-
@Lisa-Pickard In the past, it's always been fine, but the caveat has always been: if it contains text, the form, function and aesthetics of the text will be judged as part of the overall design.

@Nathalie-Kranich This one is great - such a good underwater feel.
-
@Ryan-Ehrenberg ryan this is hilarious

Hi! First time participating and pretty new to the forums as well. Very impressed with the level overall! See you around
-
@ArtofAleksey Haha thanks! I wanted to try a sillier take on the prompt.

A little boy finds an extra surprise when out for a sale under the moon.

@Tom-Shannon thank you!

Alright I wasn't going to participate until I was "better at art" but then I thought screw it just throw your hat in because it's good practice in general. Nightfall means story time at our house. Imagine the stars dropped out of the sky to listen in?

This was done in carbon paper transfer, watercolour and pencil (and only digital to adjust colour/contrast issue because my image was larger than my scanner, so it didn't scan exactly). I have become so accustomed to digital in being able to zoom in and add detail that I was unprepared to design this way, however thanks to @demotlj and @burvantill who so kindly helped me out, I was able to adjust things at the end. I still have lots of improving to go.
This work was inspired by the thought that only from earth's perspective do stars fall across the heavens. Also I wanted to tell a story about this adventurer kid who imagines steering his sights to the greater unknown.
