@anthemsweet ha! Yea, were way past teen angst here. That's a mom day.
-
Just a couple of recent projects. -
This is a stylized portrait I did today of Jessica Chastain. I was sick and in the couch all day, so I thought I'd practice pushing realism with a pencil sketch. Why not?
-
business card ideas. Self portrait... I think I shouldn't look so severe. It's a work in progress.
-
You're style is so fresh. I really like the energy in your line and the use of color. Nice work!

Took me forever to get this uploaded. All of my pictures are apparently the wrong size or file type.
Anyway, Ive been watching classes as much as I can and I decided to try out gouache painting with a composition study. Snow White - that moment when it seems like the end of the story. Hope is lost...Here's the first one with everything done wrong. I tried to make it look good. I took my time, but its the straight on face and setting and everything. Is there ever an appropriate time to do this? Thoughts?
I definitely messed up on her flowers too. I feel like they are a distraction. But, I don't hate the whole piece. I am planning to do another one in the next few days and make it more of a profile maybe. (Also - maybe not quite so bright) I might change her look a bit too... I'll gladly take any feedback and or composition suggestions to make this scene better. Thanks everyone! -
I think the girl is done very nicely. If you watch the spring critiques Lee White talks about how the great children's illustrators have most of their images turned to a 3/4 view and color keyed. You might try that with this image go with a 3/4 view and 3 point perspective.
-
@evilrobot I will have to look at that. I've watched a lot of the classes. The perspective ones several times. It hurts my brain. but I can try. So, you think looking down on her, bit with 3/4 view and 3point perspective? Or were you thinking I should try the more profile version like that? Also, the color thing you mentioned? Is that a photoshop thing?
-
Ok if anyone saw my first Snow White piece here's some thumbnails for the new version. I'm terrible at perspective, but I'm going to try anyway. Any thoughts on which? Or should I do something different from these? I don't mind cropping in close, but I don't want to go too far out the other way. I want people to see who it is. Also, I'm going to work on the colors so they make more sense with the feel of the scene. Not so bright.

*These are for the Mel Milton stylizing Portraits class.*Just a couple stylized celebrity portraits I did this week. I feel so much more comfortable sticking with pencil than trying to color things. Art is haaaaarddd!

Edited this post. Forgot to mention this was for the Mel Milton class. He was very encouraging to watch and I loved that he let himself do several passes at the portrait because he's trying to work out what he wanted to focus on. For me it's usually eyes.

@Pamela-Fraley I love the one of the girl with her head on the desk--reminds me of my 16 year old after a long test. lol
-
@lmrush that was me having a mom day. But I see the teen thing too. ️
-
@Suzy-Heitz thank you! ️

Finished watching the crown. It was super interesting. Been wanting to paint this all week and finally got a few minutes to myself. ️

This was so hard! A friend asked me to try a watercolor portrait of her kids. I agreed of course, because I'm crazy and it's just that far outside of my comfort zone and I want to learn. Anyway, many hours / days later and a few tears and fits of frustration... my husband told me I needed to be done because I was getting nit picky and he thought it looked good. Here it is.
Thankfully my friend loves it and is coming to collect it from my house today so I can stop driving myself crazy looking at it.

Just a little pencil narwhal I did for fun.
