I mentioned it before, and will gladly do so again... Perspective is (and shall, for the immediate future, remain) devil's work. I look forward to the day when I shall raise my pencil in an altogether menacing fashion, and, with a swift stroke across the smooth and fragrant paper, smite down my enemy amongst yells of "Take that, you old fiend!" and "Away with you, spawn of Beelzebub!"

Yes, one fine day it shall be so. But, for the time being, I would much appreciate any hints, tips, and constructive criticism in regards to the images below. This is the final assignment from @davidhohn's excellent course on Perspective. If you haven't taken it yet, and are—like me—fighting the good fight against horizon lines and vanishing points, go and take it. It's worth every minute!

      This is the "rough" version:

      This is the "fancy" version:

Thanks for taking the time to check this out.

@Casual-T it looks quite good!! Not an easy task for sure.

Is the clock supposed to be a circular? It's looking a bit too wide if so. That's the only thing that jumps out to me. Great job!

@davidhohn Thanks for checking it out, David. Your class is very helpful, in-depth, and very well taught. (Although, I still hate perspective... 🤣 )

@carlianne Thanks for the comment! Yes indeed, the clock is supposed to be a circle, and I agree that it looks a bit wide. I did my best to line it up with the perspective grid, but somehow it ended up looking somewhat like a potato. After checking and re-checking the grid, I decided to leave the shape as is, and accepted the fact that this is a potato that can tell time...

@Casual-T This looks very nice! Sounds like you're progressing fast towards your goal of showing it up to perspective hahaha. If it makes you feel better, I used to be exactly where you were and I hated perspective! Now that I actually learned how to do it properly, drawing backgrounds is one of my favorite things to do 🙂 You will conquer the bastard!

@NessIllustration I much appreciate your supportive comment! Hopefully I will, indeed, be able to conquer the beast before my days are done. I checked out the work on your website, and must say that perspective is not the only thing you seem to have mastered. Holy colored pencil, Batman! You're stuff is quite excellent, if I may make so bold.

I noticed that, in your post, you mentioned that you used to be exactly where I am in regards to perspective, but neglected to mention how many decades ago that was. I estimate that by around September of the year 2525 I should be caught up... 🤣

@Casual-T That's very kind of you, thank you! It wasn't nearly as much time as you imagine, I learned all I know in 3 years while at animation school. But that was at the same time as learning everything else, so if you focus on this topic it could take you much less. With the excellent classes at SVS, you're well on your way. You rocked this assignement!

I love your room!! It feels so friendly and peaceful. I especially love the solution you had for the toy chest, and the teddy sitting on top of it. This feels like a serene moment when the occupant of the room is out...just waiting for the energy and activity and mess when they return.

I agree with you about Perspective being the devil's work. It's so much effort. I just finished the Perspective course as well, and am thinking that I should probably give the final assignment one more crack at it, just to see if I can recreate the results in a different angle on the room.

@Tracy-McCusker So glad you're diggin' it! It's definitely one of those "calm before the storm" kind of moments.

In regards to perspective, I'll trust what @NessIllustration had said. It'll get easier with practice. Well, at least that's what I'll keep telling myself. 😉

Looks like you did an awesome job! I agree with you on perspective, it doesn't come intuitively at all (at least not for me). Seems like you are well on the way to defeating the beast!
