JULY CONTEST: Design a book cover for the Wizard of Oz
-
-
@Chip-Valecek - Here's my effort for this month. I used the template as am clueless about digital art but huge apologies if I don't quite fit the size specifications, I tried to resize it accordingly but not sure if it's right. I will now have time to comment on all the fantastic entries for this month, so many amazing images! Well done everyone.

@cszoltan This came out really nice! I love the style of your characters!

I kept waffling back and forth on whether to enter this month, but the most recent podcast really helped push me to enter regardless of whether I thought I would win or not. I'm always amazed and inspired by everyone's work here, and if not for SVS, this piece would not have existed in the world!
This is my interpretation of The Wizard of Oz if it happened in ancient Korea. I've included Dorothy (front and center wearing a common Hanbok), the Tiger (instead of the Lion since tigers are more prevalent in Korean stories), going counterclockwise, the Tinman dressed in a complete suit of armor, the scarecrow in peasant clothing, the Witch who's dressed in a traditional regal Hanbok wearing a shaman mask, and Toto who's a Jindo, a common breed in Korea. The yellow brick road is leading up to Emerald City which is fashioned in the style of a Korean palace. The title is in Korean on the top left.
Good luck to everyone who's entered, and kudos to you for constantly putting in the work. I see you!

-
@Eric-Droke Thank you Eric, I think the green sky goes very well with all the reds in the image.
@miranda-hoover Thanks Miranda! My character design style is still in experimental mode, so it will be interesting to see how it will evolve in my next illustration. Rely Love your Cover, it has such a mysterious feeling to it, not just the atmosphere but the fact that its in the "upside down" lol
@aprilshin Alright, Thank you Aprilshin, I goal was to make them as simplified as possible, it was an interesting challenge since in the game dev industry I usually have to make my characters very detailed.
Wow your Chinese interpretation is very unique, it reminds me of the Journey to the West, some grand adventure in the imperial China! -
@aprilshin oh wow this is such an original take on the story. I love the stye and how it turned out
-
@AnnieZyg20 thank you very much!!

Hello guys! Here is my entry for this months' topic. I've registered to svs fully just to be able to participate (it is my first time), and it was exactly the kick I needed and the motivation to push myself a little bit. I have done it traditionally entirely (mixed media, especially lots of gouache and watercolour) and the final retouches in photoshop. There are so many great entries already though, I'd be happy to know what you guys think. Everything here is extremely motivational and awesome and it is such a cool feeling to see different takes on the same topic !
Hugs from Vienna, Alexandra

But I ve seen this piece for so long now I am not sure of anything anymore..
