Roadblocks To Finishing Your Projects
-
Wow, this was a really thought-provoking episode for me:
I think taking action is better than not taking any action at all.... and for me, that is often the issue too many ideas, not enough action. I have been putting off illustrating a book of mine because I think i am not good enough yet.
What I got of this episode was to take action anyway and I will learn as I produce the product that if I wait to be good enough before I start. Love Wills analogy of making mistakes help pave the way to success. That and I need to get into the habit of completing projects even if they are small then work my way up to bigger ones.

Good illustration. I've got a soft spot (no pun intended) for felted characters and physical illustrations like this!

This was a great episode! Just what I needed to hear at this moment in time.
Wow @EliaMurrayArt! I was looking out for your podcast illustration. It did not disappoint. Great job!

This episode really hit home for me. For as long as I can remember my low self-esteem has been a major roadblock for me. As well as being surrounded by people who are just supportive enough to let me follow my dream..but do and say certain things that make me second guess myself. All that combined with depression, the stresses to make enough money to survive my motivation has been rock bottom for the most part. I also don't live near a lot of my artsy friends that I can share my work with and have real conversations about this stuff. I went to Savannah College of Art and Design and thought I'd be somewhere after but it seemed like they only cater to the prodigy students who get their job placement rates up. I know I didn't help myself by making up for all the "fun" I missed out on in high school and prob. went out and hung out with friends too much during these years...I really regret not taking as much advantage of that time than I should have....All in all a lot of Internal and External Roadblocks have stopped me from keeping up with my passion, Only listening to this podcast and really forcing myself has got me back on the road recently.

I started working on a comic back in 2014. I wanted it to look like it belonged on the shelf next to other comics so I studied up on how modern comics were being created and I had to teach myself so many things about how to work digitally. Working Digitally was a real struggle for me at that time and by 2016 I had fizzled out on what I had and redid all of my line work and character design. My skills in photoshop have leveled up dramatically since 2014. But since I was basically doing the same pages over again I fizzled out again over time. I was furloughed from my day job this year so with all the time at home I have finally made some headway on my comic! But this episode was a nice kick in the pants to keep me motivated. Thank you Will, Jake, and Lee! You guys keep reminding me why I need to see this through! Time to get to work.

@K-Flagg Keep going! I certainly am there too and know, too well, the issues of being hypercritical when the moment calls for understanding and patience (but also, action!). I won't WISH you all the best, only encourage you artist to artist. You got this!

Love the illustration @EliaMurrayArt! There is something a little sinister about the dripping red question mark though

@eriberart starting a project can be a terrifying experience
