Hi Guys, long time no post, I know! But I have a question I need answered. I'm working with a self publishing author.

My quote was just for illustrating and designing his book for print. It's my undertanding that authors purchase the rights/licence to use the illustrations in the printed book only, then if they wish to do say, an ebook, they then pay another fee to use the illustrations that way too. I have this outlined in the contract I originally put together, however, now the author is actually talking about wanted to do an ebook version, I dont know how much to charge for that usage. Any guidance on that?

I hear you 😄 honestly it's ridiculous though - this scammer went to the trouble of telling me "her kid's" favorite tv shows 🙄 like give me a break, do these people really have nothing better to do than try to steal from illustrators, who, I think I can safely say, don't typically have millions in their bank accounts anyway?! 😆

@ArtMelC here are a few more dining scenes in picture books:

The Prince and the Porker by Peter Bentley, illustrated by David Roberts, has a few dining scenes. Pignatius has a huge appetite.

King Bidgood's in the Bathtub by Audrey Wood, illustrated by Don Wood, is a Caldecott Honor book with a decadent dining scene...in the bathtub!

Tuesday by David Wiesner has a solo dining scene interrupted by flying frogs.

A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Philip C. Stead, illustrated by Erin E. Stead, has a simple scene where everyone is sharing a pot of tea in the kitchen.

Amy Wu and the Perfect Bao by Kat Zhang, illustrated by Charlene Chua, has a few dining scenes. The book is all about cooking (and eating) the perfect bao.

Tea Rex by Molly Idle is about inviting a T-rex over for a tea party.

Knight Owl by Christopher Denise has an impromptu dining scene eating pizza around a fire, if that counts.

For ease of access I screenshot the list of 100+ things to include in your portfolio.

I just started crossing things off for my portfolio and it’s very satisfying and gives me a lot of motivation to keep making new stuff!

When I use something once I highlight it in yellow, twice I make it blue, three times I make it red. I think it will be a very fun way of tracking progress! Would love to see everyone’s progression with this.
