Hello everybody, so based on everybody's advice, it seems like most people like D because it's horizontal, which would be best for the website's formatting... But I know some of you like the roundness effect. So I've created a logo that tries to stay in one horizontal lane, but does have some curve to it.

How is this?

I have forgotten what size to build a digital image at so that when you zoom it there are no problems. I learned it somewhere here but forget where I learned it, can anyone tell me? TIA

@carlianne thank you! this was what I wanted to do, but didn't know if it made any sense. My reasoning was that If I can't travel to NYC it seems nice to thank the person that did. 😆 So it wasn't anything to do with selling, but may as well start with best practices now.

@sigross and @glenfx Thank you for all this, it helps me think through how I could have gone about it more professionally. I used a pinterest board with tons of photos, not meaning to stick to any single one, but as I was cleaning it out it seemed like this one was too similar. I think the true problem here is licensing with NYPL which I didn't think about since I made them as pieces I wouldn't be selling, kind of like fan art in my portfolio.

@Molambo Haha, I was thinking father too but went with brother. Yeah, agreed, it's crazy what Todd Mcfarlane is trying to do with his expanded Spawn universe now. More power to him!

@xin-li so far the idea had only been interesting to me as a version of a publisher business model that would deal with international artists, not sure why except as a sort of publisher of standalone images, something that is never the focus of picture book makers. 🙂 But the idea of a local collective sounds really fun the way you describe it. If this pandemic would ever end...

@carlianne I totally see your art in comic format. Would be really interesting reading comic stories from you. I was huge indie comic reader some years back. My passion for narrative art started with reading Neil Gaiman's Sandman, and Art Spiegelman, Marjane Satrapi‎'s biographical comics. I am following Lucy Knisley's biographical comic since 2007 when her first book was out :-). Right now, I really love Grant Snider's comic (he also does beautiful, simple and profound children's books :-).

I got to use Paint tool SAI until around 2014 when I came upon PaintStorm Studio, it works and feels similar but it is incredibly much better than SAI. It also features some of the tools found in photoshop and sketchbook pro as well (the rulers are and the rope (lazy mouse) are the best imho) so it is a really great program and It is also very cheap, I highly suggest you to try it out.

Another program you can use is Clip Studio Paint, really great overall program that has a huge deal of tools similar to photoshop as well as really cool brush customization features. It is worth much more than PaintStorm though.
I wouldn't go with an ipad and procreate just because everyone else and their mothers are using it, most of it is just hype.

About your original topic, yep, it is a cmyk problem, you can avoid color conversion issues if you work with less saturated colors, so try avoiding picking colors at the top right corner, this should reduce a lot of the problems when converting to cmyk.

Being a bad commercial illustrator is something they are qualified to comment on. 2 entirely different things.
