I wanted to share my May Art Contest piece before posting it. I'm really happy with this, each frame took me about a day to create, and I spent another few days coming up with the compositions and script etc.

I'd like so see if anyone can guess why the text in the first frame says "b'aaah'd" and why the name of the last character sheet says "Ehhd" :).

Unfortunately the text turned out a little blurry due to the template size. I originally created it a 300 dpi where it was really crisp but unfortunately I had to scale it done to upload it in order to meet the file size requirements. If anyone has a solution to this before the deadline I'd very much appreciate it !

This prompt was perfect timing for me as I was already planning on putting a graphic novel pitch together without having any experience in this area. This was the perfect opportunity for me to practice.

If anyone can give me some feedback on the comic strip and advice on the blurry text, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm extremely excited to share good news that my 3rd book in the Mustard Series, Mustard Thinks Twice! is now published!

Some of you may recall seeing my in-process spreads in the monthly SVS Virtual Studio forums as I worked diligently on my book.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank SVS teachers and community in the forum for helping me become a better artist and for encouragement as I continue to chase my dream of writing and illustrating for children.

I am grateful that you shared this song. My mother used to sing it to us while we were driving to visit the towns where she and my father grew up. I hope you won't mind if I copy this book to share with my extended family to help us remember our mother's singing of this song on our family trips. It's charming!

Piece done for Ethan Becker's Art Style Challenge. Pretty happy with how it turned out. I would greatly appreciate some feedback.

The goal was to take two influences from each category and combine they to create something unique.

Medium - Comic / Instagram
Genre - AvatarTLA / AdultSwim
Story- Rick and Morty / Better Call Saul
Design - Sylvain Chomet / Ethan Becker

For the medium, I wanted to do a single frame image with a comic aesthetic and it was to be displayed on instagram so I took that into consideration for the measurements.

Avatar is filled with drama with elements of comedy so I wanted to use that along with the more adult feel of Adult Swim's cartoons.

With the story I liked the grandpa/grandson dynamic in Rick and Morty so I took that and merged it with the crooked/tacky lawyer elements of Saul Goodmans in Better Call Saul.

For style, I wanted to exaggerate certain proportions in the face, like Sylvain Chomet does in The Illusionist and Triplets of Belleville, while trying to capture a story moment, like Ethan Becker does really nicely.

Unfortunately I wasn't successful with achieving all of these, and I think that's down to a lack of fundamentals in some areas, but I really like the result. It's something I never would have come up with it I didn't try this process. A really interesting way of generating ideas.

Super cool concept. So intriguing!

@Kim-Hunter that is an interesting point. The picture shows the aftermath of a nightly battle between this one dragon and dragonfly. The dragon, tired from the fruitless chase and the lack of sleep, has given up. The dragonfly has escaped and takes a final look from outside the window before leaving - you are totally right, it might help if the dragonfly's posture or look was victorious/defiant/... or something like that... I never thought about that - also TBH I find it really hard to draw 😅 .

Hi @Cathlynd, definitely storyboard the whole book and add rough values to highlight contrast and focal points.

@davido Wow, thanks for your help! I wasn't expecting anyone to put any time into analyzing my image, but I really appreciate it. The bed was looking funky to me but I thought perhaps it was because I picked bad vanishing points. Now I realize that it was that AND I didn't use the second point properly to begin with. Yikes!
