Hi! I like the title, for me "adventuring" feels like a fun word, and I like the font with the little gnome hat too. I also like the general graphic look of the composition. I would think it is a good base. As pointed out, feels too bland for a cover though. I think a cover might relay just on a very simple strong graphic, or be a rich detailed image and I think yours is too inbetween. And being a children's book cover you probably want to go more towards the "rich"? Maybe by adding some more personality to the dragon and textures? Now the dragon looks a bit nondescript and there is too much blank space everywhere. By "nondescript" I think I mean he does not have any expression, he is not fierce, not cute either... If you don't want to depict the hero in the image, at least the dragon should have some character... Or the dragon could be just a graphic suggestion but Ii think in this case you should show the hero... The spiral around the title is too simple and brown... I think it stands for "the adventure," so it might have a forest texture or some interesting light.. Some detail...I hope what I said makes sense and is helpful! Good luck! :)))

A really nice job but I’m gonna say the falling silo is throwing me…a little too phallic? :0 and you’ve created a little tension spot with the end of the fork and the top of the silo

@kayleenartlover Hey, sorry I took so long to respond. Maybe changing the nose will help? Overall, your queen, while still being stylized, just seems to have a little more anatomical accuracy and interesting proportions than Alice so far.

Hi! As a mom-would-be-artist I would have gladly picked for my kid a book illustrated in your style, when she was little. It is colourful and appealing and I like the faces and expressions of the characters 🙂 I'm not sure how to define it. It certainly gives a traditional work feel, it makes use more of colors , lines, and shapes than of volumes and light, so it is more 2d than 3d, I perceive this way. Very nice and fun 🙂

As a side note, I always got books after attentively reading and liking the story too, even if I liked the illustrations, because small kids need and ask to have the same favourite book read to them a hundred times a day, so it was a must that I would have some fun with the story too 🙂 So the SVS gang is right when putting emphasis on storytelling...

@kylebeaudette remember we had RL Stine goosebumps books with scary stories that made a great hit. I think these work great as long as you aim it to the right age group.
Games like plants vs zombies have taken the scariness into a more common ground so your images look spooky like an interesting tale, not as something dangerous

@ChloeGreenbergArt I think its the windows, you seem to have some opening towards the outside but they dont come out of the window frame, and some towards the inside but we shouldn’t be able to see them in their totallity, some part of it should be hidden because they are blocked by the frame.
Maybe you could try to have them all closed and just direct our eyes to the light hitting the person

Hi, so its been months that I have been working on and off on my own book project. I went through several "pit of despair" phases and then streaks of where I enjoyed myself. But now that I am getting closer to the end I feel completely stuck again.
I am doing the illustrations traditionally - black and yellow ink on paper- and before I go ahead to redraw several of them I thought I ask for advice for the pages I am stuck with or simply don't like any more.

The story is about a dog and the noises she hears at night. Below is the opening page. While I like the first one, the second is annoying me. The original idea was to have the frames to get the idea that the scenes are set "inside" vs the outside of the previous page. I tried to come up with new ideas for page 2 but feel completely stuck. Any comments, criticism, ideas of how to improve it are welcome.

The other page I am stuck with is a frog jumping into water..... I have redrawn it now for the 3rd time and I feel perspective and layout are off each time...
This was the first version I did but the rendering does not fit with the other pages. Any ideas how else to illustrate a "splish splash" night scene? I think I am too stuck with the diving frog image to come up with anything creative anymore.

@kayleenartlover Hi! I think that aiming for 100% improvement at each try is difficult and too much pressure. Trying one thing at a time and feeling gradual improvement is ok 🙂 When still working on the basics working on a difficult angle will make everithing more difficult, but I also like picking an idea that feels more fun! Also… I finally learned that starting over and over is not that bad, every time it wil be easier and better! And many thumbnail sketches at any point in the drawing you feel stuck, even for little parts of the drawing. Hope this helps!

I was sorry not to be able to join the live streaming but to prove I have been watching I added the suggested arrow 🙂 And because my family now loves the Griffin, I made a quick drawing of my character, Porchi, riding it. Thought it would be fun to share here, to conclude this topic before going on to the underwater theme.
