What a great concept! I really like the yellow one. Seems to contrast a little better with the blue sky to me. Also love the idea of the angry dragon in the background!

@Gary-Wilkinson so so cute!! Love the yellow one. I think it gives a nice contrast to the sky and doesn't blend with the purple of the dragonflies.

@Gary-Wilkinson, this is such a sweet concept! LOVE the dragon being carried by the dragonflies. I think i like the yellow one best. Not sure about having other dragons poking heads out of the clouds, though. Makes me ask, "If that dragon needs to be carried in order to fly, how did those other dragons get up there?" I think you'll be fine to just keep it simple and have just the one dragon. Keep up the great work, bro!

@Gary-Wilkinson I like yellow best. It has more of that rubber ducky kids toy feeling. I hope you forget to enter the contest. This one doesn’t have to be submitted until September πŸ˜ƒ

This is so adorable! I love it! I agree that the yellow looks best. I really pops against the blue background better. Fabulous job!

Thank you for everyone's comments! It waas hard to choose between yellow or red, but I agree with what some of you mentioned about the color balance and making the dragon feel lighter. Slowly working on it now and if I ever get the time I might paint the boy flying on the dragonfly at a later point πŸ™‚

Managed to finish the WIP above and gave a shot at one of the other sketches that I thought might be fun to try out. Any critiques on it would be great, i'm not sure whether the big dragonfly fits in well, but not sure how to improve it

@Gary-Wilkinson Super cute and fun! I think the expression of the character in the bottom-left really helps tell the story in the picture πŸ‘

For a critique, I think the only thing that bothers me is that I initially thought the dragonfly in the top-right corner was also giant but in the distance (but as I'm spending more time looking at it, I think it's in the foreground and the girl is trying to catch it?) I think this confused me because my initial read of the image established dragonflies as giants, so by the time my eyes got to the other dragonfly, my brain assumed it was also giant. Something that might make this more clear is to have more normal-sized dragonflies in the foreground (overlapping some elements to make it clear they're not giant in the background), e.g. another dragonfly going into the net.

I hope this feedback was helpful! Great use of shapes and textures!

@miranda-hoover Thanks for the comments and I think you gave me a great idea. It bothers me too about having a giant sized dragonfly and then normal sized ones. I was thinking what if the giant one was a robotic one she has created to catch the normal sized ones. Maybe add a toolbelt or inventor googles on her and it might be a much better concept (?)

@Gabby-Correia Thanks Gabby, me too, but it was still worth the practice.

@miranda-hoover Do you think the changes help fix some of the issues?

@Gary-Wilkinson Yes! Looks great! I didn't realize the dragonfly was robotic, but it defiantly reads like that now πŸ‘
