Hi everyone. I decided to show a little process and get feedback.
Things I want: cuteness, humble, kind, smart, wide-eyed and curious. I also wante a non traditional character so I went with a faun-type fella.
      These are my initial sketches.
      Thoughts?

@chrisaakins this is a cute start, I really like the angle you chose for the running pose, he looks a little like the white rabbit there. Have you thought about his background at all? I’m loving his knapsack! SO cute also is that phez? Lol! not sure if I spelled that right but I like it too. I do have to say his feet feel a bit to long for me if he’s faun-ish I’m thinking they should be tiny... but if your doing that deliberately than that’s cool too👍🏼

@chrisaakins Nice! Looks like he's going to be a fun character. I really like the feel of the running pose (I like how his hat is falling off), but I noticed that his arms and legs are mirroring each other when they should be opposite each other.

@miranda-hoover good call! I wasn't even thinking about that when I sketched him out!@Asyas_illos I thought it would be fun to make him have big ole feet. I may have to draw one of them with just his hooves so that people can see the anatomy of them.

Here is some more sketching and a face study. Does the rendering on the face look appealing?

So do you think the reflection in the mirror would count as a neutral 3/4 view? Trying to be as creative as possible here.

@chrisaakins Love the idea of using a mirror! I would say it counts, as long as we can see enough of the body to understand the character from all angles. And points for creativity. Cool idea to have him sitting on the lettering too!

Hi Chris! I love the colors and textures you're working with, and that framed running pose is a standout. I think you might need to double check the body proportions in the center image to make sure they match the running pose. He looks kind of stretched out and maybe not like the same guy.

I probably wouldn't only because the reflection is less detailed. Maybe trying to make it too creative is doing more harm than good in that situation.

                            Lookin' solid though otherwise!

@jdubz alas, I am committed! Haha. Well hopefully I put enough detail in to satisfy the judges. Last time I did almost no context and “fluff”. This time I am going in for the kill on storytelling and creativity. Even if I don’t place I think it is turning out very much like I want for my portfolio.

                              Here is more progress:

One more Faraday to go. Sitting on the top of the lettering.

@chrisaakins So much fun! I love the layout and there's definitely a strong sense of who this little guy is. Haha, my favorite is the running shot which also plays nicely into the overall composition with the arrows pointing back towards the central image.
