I feel a bent wing will translate into injury since butterfly wings aren't that flexible..if at all. But butterflies have legs. It might make more sense if it is waving with a leg.

@Beatriz-"Bett" Now it is too big. Can someone correct size this? So much to learn.

if you're using photoshop, use the export choice instead of the normal save as under the file tab,
then select web, and your final size will appear in the lower right corner, change that and hit save.
I always make it 800 by height if the height is over 800 pixels wide.
You can go as wide as 1024, but again check your height. Hope that helps.

As to you main problem, if you don't want to draw arms, you could put hands on the edge of your wings...

It looks like they are saying hi instead of goodbye. I would turn the butterfly around and show it in 3/4 view, it should help convincing the departure of the bug.

I like bending the tip of the wing too. I also like the waving arm but my first thought was to bend the wing. It's a story so you can "bend" the rules on what is real and natural. Butterflies, in real life, do not wave good bye anyway 🙂

I like Trace's example, with the arms.

But if you want to use the wings, I think you need to make the butterfly a bit more animated and expressive. Also since the text says it for you, you don't necessarily have to show the butterfly doing it, especially since all the other characters are already waving.

Here's is a rough example with motion lines and an expression on the butterfly. Good luck with the project, it looks really cute! 😃

                        Butterflies --> 4 wings

I think you can use @Charlie-Eve-Ryan Idea but giving to both front wings the same "arm" aspect.

                        mariposa.jpg

.Another solution is to change the point of view and use the front legs as armas.

@Beatriz-"Bett" On the left is what the illustration looks like now. What do you think if I flip it, like on the right?

If someone could let me know which version they like better I will appreciate it. Picture 1 on the left or Picture 2 on the right? Thanks.

@Beatriz-"Bett" Hi Beatriz, I would probably go with the one on the right...since the butterflies action reads left to right, the way you read a book. Hope that helps.

Then again if the monkey in the tree is your main character then having him fly left to right is better and you should go with the left one.

So really it depends on the story. Does the monkey land on the next page after the page turn or the butterfly?

                                        Hi Beatriz,

I know you've been working on this one for a while - I just saw it...here's another option for waving...It might communicate your idea quicker?

                                        Nice work!
