I found this video that explains a lot about how to actually use a silhouette and turn it into something. The most useful part starts around minute 52.

@jenn Hi! It's great you've joined in on this thread, so thank you.

For the pontoon portion I started with long rectangles like I think you did but I only added a triangle down (if that makes sense). I left the top portion flat. Also your wings look like they are a v shape, like there's a bend in the wings going across.

I will post some more (slowly) now that other's have joined in.

@Lisa-Clark Thanks for posting and sorry I haven't been on to check since now lols. I struggle in this area (vehicles) so I understand -I did multiple angles for part 3 of angles assignment 1. And I am drawing a car (from a book on cars) to practice building a car from blocks in perspective. I haven't got as far as you. When I do I'll see if I can help you or if I will struggle in the same ways as you. But from a little environment design class I took and we did silhouettes -perhaps keep yours to simpler recognizable shapes and if you struggle in 3pp keep your designs flat and then after you sketch them out, work out the perspective.

        🙂

@Lisa-Clark Lols I think he's right -unless it was anchor on a rock and it was partly for decoration. Keep on playing with the idea (proportions and placement) and see what you can come up with!

@Heather-Boyd Thanks, I didn't realize the wonky wing angle. While fixing it, I also realized I had the pontoon shape completely wrong. You can see it in the orange under-drawing. (Talk about never being able to float...)

Thank you for gently pointing me in the right direction. I even had references but just neglected to look at the pontoons, under the assumption that I already knew what they looked like... Tunnel vision, LOL.

              So here's another take.

@jenn It's certainly tricky business. I'll probably have mine up next week for this part of the assignment. I did more 4 angle (ish) for the plane and 2 for the cargo ship because I need the practice. lols

I struggled to design weak and strong at first because I struggled to draw a car which I haven't done for a few years. So I tried Jake Parker's car and then the assignment. What I am showing here (red car page) is my second attempt.

@Heather-Boyd thank you for your input! I agree. I want to keep playing with it because it's an intriguing idea to me. My son is very very good at STEM type stuff so I value his opinion. It's just funny cause he's so blunt.

@Heather-Boyd The silhouette method is entirely new to me but I totally get that it's brilliant. I just have a lot of work to figure out how it works. I keep trying and giving up but I'm going to keep pushing myself because I know once I figure it out I'll be one step closer to doing this professionally! Maybe more youtube videos? 😊

@Leah Hey, I think you did great. The weak one turned out awesome but maybe you could push the strong one a little more. I'm not even really sure how but I think maybe it could use a little more exaggeration. Maybe straighter lines by the front windshield?? I don't know what I would change if it were mine but it feels like it could be pushed further somehow.

@Leah i love the variation in the different versions of this vehicle. They each have their own personality.

@Leah The 1st one definitely reads as weak, and structurally falling to pieces. The 2nd one exudes a vibe of confidence, like a strong personality. I like that take on it (as opposed to physical strength).

@Heather-Boyd I can see that the gray ones have more deliberate shapes. Did you draw those after the red ones?
