Riley initial idea WIP
-
So my idea was to show Riley bursting out of the garage in her flying machine invention, with the garage far below, but I see now that the intention is to actually show the garage and the chaos within (thank you for pointing that out @elinore-eaton!
)
So back to brainstorming… but I thought I might continue with this piece anyway as I’m having fun with it, and I've not tried a bird’s-eye view before. I would, however, value some feedback as I find perspective a constant struggle (I keep watching tutorials and trying to introduce it to my work in the hope that one day we will get along). I’ve tried this image from various angles and this seems to be the best so far. Does it look right to you? Is the story obvious?
Any feedback/critique would be gratefully received. Thank you!

This is great. I am working on mine as well, but this is a great take on the concept.

@ruth you could always submit both! They allow for more than one entry.

Great composition and idea @ruth, keep going with this.

This is really lovely. I’ve just re-read the prompt and could the items inside the garage now be outside the garage as they’ve been blown out of it?
For this prompt, we want to know the story behind the creation, so we are looking for a full-page illustration. Spend time brainstorming some objects you can fill the garage with that will help tell us even more about Riley and what happened.
I would hope it’s plausible that some of the items will now be outside as long as the items help tell the story.

Hi @ruth, this piece looks so fun and I like the energy and emotion of it. Nice composition and cute character design.
Ehmm.. without the text, the image could read as if she happened to discover a flying machine in the garage and fly away, but not she created it... maybe it's just me. Maybe she can hold some tools in her hands and some greasy oil on her shirt, it'll be more obvious.

What a cute sketch! Love it!
Yeah, I think I'm going to go back to the drawing board and get a more tinkering kind of vibe. Embrace the garage lol.
-
@ruth I think this works great for the prompt! What if there was just a big hole in the top of the garage like she flew out if it? That would accomplish the text and you'd get this super fun image you're excited about.

Thanks for the encouragement @DoodleMick, @chrisaakins and @Jeremy-Ross ! Much appreciated
Good idea @lizardillo! Yes, of course, there's no reason why there can't be objects scattered around the garage from the blast! Thank you!
Thanks for your feedback @aurelia. Yes, you're right, I need to make it look like she's actually built it. Great suggestions!
Thanks @Elinore-Eaton! I think in truth I was hoping to meet the brief without having to draw a garage full of objects. Which is probably a good reason for actually doing it.
Good luck with embracing your garage!
Thanks @carlianne! There is actually a hole in the garage roof but I realise I haven't made it very obvious. Too busy trying to invent a flying machine.
Hopefully the value sketch will make it clearer.

@ruth It's an adorable drawing!

@ruth I really do like the angle! I think the main problem for me is that it feels a little too empty in the middle and it feels divided down the middle

Thank you @lauraa !

Thanks @phoenix-yip. Yes, I see what you mean. I was wondering about putting the words in there. I'll play around with it a bit more and see if I can make it a bit more balanced.
