Riley WIP 2.0

I’m pretty close to being finished with my first Riley piece and decided to try my hand at a second. The values aren’t all in yet, but what do you think of composition so far.

@angelinakizz That’s a clever idea! It could really pop if you add color, but I am a bit confused on the size relations between the human, the dog, and the car. The car seems pretty small and low to the ground. It might also help if we see what it is that the dog turned into a mess? The labels and image on the car seem like an important detail, but I don’t know how it’s helping explain the scene, if it is meant to connect with the mess Riley made.

@kayleenartlover oh you’re totally right the car needs to be bigger! And thanks for the suggestion on making it clearer what Riley destroyed, I’ll work that in! It will be colored, I’m just working on values for now.

Revised Riley 2.0. I think it’s almost done, but I feel like it’s lacking. Any input would be greatly appreciated,

@angelinakizz Great image and fun concept! One thing that stuck out that I think would make a big difference would be to diversify the size of your stuffing. The individual pieces are mostly the same size and the patterns on the larger chunks are pretty similar. If you push the big, medium, and small idea I think it could give the piece some extra pop and dynamism. Maybe even let it spill a little into the foreground a bit too making the gentleman realize that, "crap, this is my mess now, isn't it?"

@kayleenartlover Regarding the text on the car: The owner is a dog trainer, but Riley is misbehaving.

@miriam my idea was that Riley was trying to prove that she too could be a guard dog. If I didn’t portray that well, I will need to strengthen that part of the story.

@angelinakizz Sorry, I don't get that message from the image, even after hearing that's what the intention was. But it would be a good story — a small dog wanting to show they are tough enough to do the job.
I think you'd need something showing Riley is strong, threatening, or clever enough to do the job. In this image, I see a dog making a mess with a soft object.
You could have Riley make a big bark instead, so she can sound the alarm if there is trouble. Maybe Riley has something to amplify the bark? Like a megaphone, or some kind of gadget or radio.
