April Treehouse WIP

@andreazupcsan I was having a hard time with this one as well. I think this looks great tho
I love the lighting.

Hi Andrea,
Good job so far! What specifically would you like feedback on? The colors, the composition, the construction of the houses/architecture stuff? Will this thumbnail be pretty close to your final colors/comp?
-
@andreazupcsan I really like it. I think you should keep going. Just remember that it’s a spit illustration and not a full page. The background is supposed to be white, and to embody the spot, the top of the tree should be visible imo.
-
@mary2022 specifically the construction of the tree house. Is it varied enough and look (although fantastic) plausible? Is my silhouette okay? I know the construction is wonky, but that’s because I was getting ideas down.
-
@AngelinaKizz where did you see the background had to be white? I didn’t see anything but that it had no background. Does a color count as a background? @Lee-White could one of you clarify?
-
@chrisaakins good question! A spot illo can still have a toned/color background if it can enhance the piece.
-
@Lee-White is it still a spot if the illustration has a frame? I think of spots as floating in space without interacting with a frame or edge but is that not the case?
-
@andreazupcsan Hi! I love the start where you're going... what are you intending to imply with the multiple layers? BTW I love the Swiss Family approach... one of my absolute faves growing up! I love the windows, the cute little cozy ball nook that might be a place to take a nap... Maybe add in some cutaways so you can see inside more?
Keep going, your inspiration will move you.
Thank you for your initial sketch! Excited to see the evolution of your piece! -
@andreazupcsan I think really exaggerating shapes could help a lot here. If you make this a silhouette there’s not a whole lot that stands out right now. Keep in mind the compositional/shape rule of "small, medium, huge"
-
Here’s a draw-over to show how you could add some bigger shapes @andreazupcsan
-
@Griffin Thank you for the draw over! I do think the exaggerated shapes help it a lot. I tend to let everything hang out around the same size. I think I got a bit lost with this one so I started a completely different one with better shape language.
