March 3D thurs concept sketch
-
Having so much trouble posting on here from my iPad. Hopefully this works. Here's my concept sketch for the March 3D Thursday. She has a bear. And she brought it to "Show and tell". I would love any feedback. I know the straight on isn't the most interesting composition normally, but in scary movies they do that thing where they zoom in a straight shot of the subject. So, that's where I was thinking of going. Thoughts? Thanks everyone!

I love that she has on a bear hat. Great detail!

Also, forgot to mention, I know it's a spot or vignette I just wanted to get the idea nailed down first.

@Carrie thank you! My kids have those hats. ️

Okay, specific question. I'm not used to doing full scenes. That's why I'm challenging myself to try and muscle through the 3d Thursday prompts. The composition and lighting are especially tricky for me. So, to turn this concept into a vignette I'm going to have to fade out part of the picture. I'm wondering how to do this while still making the setting clear. Anyone have any suggestions? Should I lose the kids in front? The girl with her hand raised? I thought it was kinda funny with her. And, I have kids so I'm always fascinated by their responses to things. Some of them overreact and panic sometimes over things that are no big deal, and some of them just think everything is awesome - even when it should be scary. I'm wondering if there's a way I can show all this in the picture or if I should simplify. And, if I keep those characters, should I pull them in off the edges a bit more, so as not to have them drawing attention off the focal point? Any feedback you have would be very much appreciated!!

@Damien-Rambacher Thanks. I'll do some more sketches and try to play around with that. The tile lines are a great idea. I think it would help with perspective.

I went to the library and checked out a bunch of books with spot illustrations. It helps me to look at examples. I imagine you could do a google search, too and come up with quite a few spot illustrations. I'm certainly no expert, but I think you can experiment with shape and/or a faded background.

I like the idea and the design of the little girl. Yes I agree on trying some more sketches if you are not happy with the straight on view. I thought it would be very funny if the bear wore something too like something cool

great concept--However, I would really push the size of the bear if I were you. Maybe, due to the fact that you aren't supposed to have boarders on this one, the bear could actually be popping out of the scene.
