@HeatherB There wasn't much thought into making the kid large or small to be honest, but I do apologise if it comes off in any negative way. In regards to the type of cow, I just threw in whatever felt like "cow" 😃

Still need to decide where to add a ladybug to this one but happy enough with it apart from that

I've decided to redesign the ladybug to fit in more with the style of the main characters by giving it eyes and more of an appealing shape. Fortunately I already had a few ladybug designs that I had thumbnailed for an earlier book, and although I didn't use it I always liked the design of it.

I think this new design will allow the ladybug to play more within the scene to make things a little more interesting and amusing. What do you think?

One interesting insight into the process of this was that I was going to add a chain for the swing, but changed to a rope as the detail of it was too busy (at least it was good practice)

For those that are interested, here is a short view of my process. You can also see it a little clearer on my instagram page if you use that app.

Line - Block in - Detail (begin to shape form with lighting) - More Detail 😃

@Gary-Wilkinson Oh, I love this so much! Thank you for showing the different stages of your process. I love seeing how people work, and I especially love the life and energy in your original sketch.

Are these for a prompt/art challenge? Are you planning to create 100 kids in animal outfits? ^_^ That's intense!

@Gary-Wilkinson I especially appreciate the motion in this one and I think the ladybug holding on like that is a wonderful addition.

@Meekipink Not really a prompt, but just general ideas to explore styles and different themes. Most likely wont go to 100 with just kids as animals, but it's fun for the moment.

This next concept is to have the kids in more of a homemade makeshift costume. I do like the idea of this as it leaves more room for exploration. Don't feel I got the best result out of this one, but it's a nice start for future pieces. The concept was that the girl wants to be a spider, so is wearing a pillowcase with socks stuck on. The feathers are there to add to the movement in the composition and to further reference the pillowcase prop (althoug i'm not sure it goes across that well)

These are great Gary. May faves are the frog and the bee 🙂

I think the spider one just needs the right arm (furthest one) brought up so it's not hidden behind the body and the pillow case lit a bit more so you can see it's a pillow case and the web on it (I had not realised it was a pillow case). Theres quite strong lighting on the face but most of the body is really dark, perhaps cheat the ambient lighting a bit just so you can see what it is or make the pillow less of a rich black.

But genuinely, these are really cool!

@ArtistErin You're right about the pillow. I think it doesn't show as well as I wanted to, but it's all part of learning 🙂

Following on with homemade animal-like kids, I went with a kid who loves cookies a bit too much. The idea started with the cookie kid and as I wanted to fit it with the animal theme I decided to put the character in a sleeping back to resemble a snake. I think the idea could have being polished out more, but this is about as far as i'd like to take it.
