I tried this weekend to draw something that may look "finish", but then I realized how hard it is to do something on my own without a video on the background telling me to not get stuck on details lol. I wasted a few hours these days on practically nothing at all because I didnt even finished it, I wanted to start again but felt frustrated and powerless because I don't have a methodology to work on my own yet, I can't to aply the knowledge that I'm adquiring through videos and now I know how empty and shallow that knowledge is.
So I did a few figure drawings today to at least feel that I'm doing something where I don't suck that much and realized that I tried to paint the previous drawing with cleaner shapes from the start and that unconciously made me reclutant to paint over the shapes that I did previously.
At least got some conclusions from all my mess this weekend, will try to do something on my own again every weekend
.
I hope that if Eliana from the future see this post next weekend, she will know that she needs to place all the values first without committing to anything, know about the general direction of the painting first before making cleaner shapes

@Eliana-Bastidas I really like all these images- so, don't beat yourself up.

I love this time capsule project, Eliana! Great idea, and I can't wait to see what comes of it.
As someone who has spent a long time in art classrooms, I struggled for a long time with how to know what 'finished' looks like for me, without an instructor or a project brief. I spend a lot of time overdoing it or under-doing it, but it's nice to look back through my sketchbook and understand better what my process looks like. -
This have been my practices these days, trying to keep a limit of 30-40min focusing on how to handle the values / colors and proportions.
-
@Valerie-Light @PenAndrew Thank you! It really motives me to know your own experiences because I haven't gone to any art class yet. I've "been taking classes" online only and I thought it was a problem that happened because I don't have a mentor pointing out what I am doing wrong.
-
@Eliana-Bastidas I think you're doing awesome, then!
It's not the same as having an instructor look over your shoulder, but master copies make good stand-ins for mentors. As you decide what finished looks like for you, trying to replicate the process of a piece you admire can be super informative. -
@Eliana-Bastidas I think your work is very strong and I like it very much and look forward to seeing it week by week.
-
@Eliana-Bastidas You also inspire me to do regular work which i have started with my desire to draw comics but this has been delayed by having to grade 189 exams over 4 days!
-
Wow Eliana phenomenal work and I love hearing how your processes work. Thank you for posting these things and showing where your mindset is because I totally resonate with you. I appreciate it so much. I'll definitely be following your progress.
-
This is great work Eliana! Don't be too hard on yourself, even if you don't finish a piece, there is a ton of learning going on and that's so valuable.
I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to not "finish" a piece when you are learning. Keep it up!
-
@Eliana-Bastidas I absolutely love that blue and red-ish portrait, great color picking there!
-
Thank you everybody. I changed my mind and will be keeping this kind of posts monthly, that way it will be easier for me to look back because I will need to check only 12 posts
-
I've been doing the Illustration Isolation of visual arts passage. This picture really was a challenge to me, I couldn't get the correct values and kept changing them. In the end I still couldn't get the likeness of the picture before giving up.
Since I've been trying to get better at my fundamentals, I've been looking for one on one mentorship, so I purchased the one from force drawing. I saw a few videos, understood the process I but don't know how to apply it yet. Here is the mess I made trying to get at it:
It took me 10min aprox on each drawing and I had to erase/redraw them because when I got stuck at the "force" concept I was making mistakes on my measurements and got the proportions all wrong. -
@Eliana-Bastidas these are great!
-
@Asyas_illos Thanks! Sorry, I'm not used to notifications in the forum yet lol, just realized you wrote to me when I was about to post.

More practices.
