Progress in Interior Environment Design
-
Hey guys, I just finished @Will-Terry terry's class, Interior Environment Design, which was also my first SVS Class! Those of you who have taken it know that we are supposed to post our initial drawing and our final drawing after going through the process. Here are my sketches, please feel free to critique and criticize (for real) but no pressure! The bathroom scene is my before and the living room is the after. Thanks for reading! I look forward to being a part of this community.

Hey, I love the comedy of the Octopus in the bathtub! I think it is a stronger piece because it has a character in it. However, I have not taken that class yet, so I'm not entirely sure of the parameters. Great detail work in the living room drawing, but maybe add more evidence of a character?

@Kruzby Both are excellent drawings and it was a tough choice! But I prefer the second one because, interior-wise, it feels cosier and more lived in. I think if you swapped the framed text in the bathroom for a tropical image, added a shower curtain, drapes for the windows, a bunch of pot plants, tiles on the wall and maybe even gave the octopus a face mask and towel on his head, and..... a little rubber ducky, it would have been a winner, haha ^_^

@Meekipink Thank you so much for that feedback. Those are some super duper great ideas! I love the idea of potted plants, changing the picture, and adding the beloved rubber ducky. You just reignited the fire for this image. Thanks so much!

@mcschweitzer Thank you for that comment! I agree with you, I like the octopus one better because of the character use; it just gives the image purpose. The living room one would definitely benefit from having a character, but I am not sure what to include to liven it up and bring it into reality. I am not confident in my ability to create a human that would match the style of the room/drawing, especially in this perspective.
Any thoughts?

@Kruzby If you finished the 2nd image with some ambient lighting radiating from the fireplace, you could get away with just having a figure reading on the couch (or maybe even a snoozing cat?).

Welcome! It seems you’ve got a good grasp on perspective and interesting povs, both of these are phenomenal. I’d say the bathroom is my favorite solely because their is a character with a story. Good job!
-
@Meekipink Oooh yeah! I like that idea a lot. I'll play around with those ideas and post the results to this thread when it's finished.
-
@Asyas_illos Thank you very much! I agreed with you, the bathroom is my favorite too

The first one is more alive with movement, emotion and fun details, and like many others said, the octopus character makes it more appealing than the second image. The second image is strong technically speaking, but is more of a quiet scene with no characters or story.

@jenn Good observations, much appreciated! If you could change something about the second sketch, what would it be? Thanks again

@Kruzby hmm something you could try in the second one might be to add a hint of a character. It's a very calm, stable looking room, so maybe there's like a tail sticking out somewhere or a glow of eyes? Just some ideas.
