Superhero Claire - finder of missing things WIP
-
Hello!
I didn't want to submit at first because superheroes aren't really my thing... but I just finished a big submission and thought, why not challenge myself! Here it is!
My name is Claire. My super power is CLAIREVISION - a superhuman vision that can find missing objects. Lost your other sock? Call me and I will find your missing thing! (It may not be the one you are looking for...)
My questions:
- Does her ability read well in the poses?
- Does she appear to have a relatable personality?
- Suggestions for improvement are always welcome!
-
@ArtMelC Looks cute and lovely.
Your idea is great, but I would like to see an image where she's using her superpower and that everything relates to what you are trying to say. I can't why she may be holding a heart or a paper? I would do the poses related to the powers and stuff she may be doing when using them.

@Eliana-Bastidas Thank you. Yeah I am struggling to show the humour in that she finds things but not the right things. I'm toying with the idea of adding thought bubbles... let's see if that helps.
On the "superpower-in-action", I am thinking that the rim of her monocle will turn rainbow-coloured and glow when she finds a missing object, and it will have the 3 signal lines when she is still searching. I will have to experiment to see if it works.

I don’t think the text should be included. Communicate what’s in the text through the design and posing of the character. Right now the poses don’t convey any clear superpowers. Try to think of a design that will tell viewers that this is a superhero without question. At the moment it feels more like a kid wearing a cape. Call attention to what makes this characters a superhero

@ArtMelC The idea for her superpower is very cute. Especially since she is a kid and may not be familiar with the object she is helping someone find yet.
@Griffin suggestion of trying to convey the idea without the text is very good.
At the moment it isn't clear that she is finding things for others. The one that looks most like she is finding an object is the last one where she is looking under the blanket.
Keep us updated on your progress! I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

@ArtMelC this is so cute!! I love the idea that she doesn’t always get the right item. Maybe to make that more clear you could have her holding a paper with essentially a “wanted” sign and in the other hand be holding the found item?
In any case, she’s super adorable and you’ve got a great concept! -
@ArtMelC I agree that right now, it's probably not clear that she's using a superpower to find things. And I agree that it probably needs to communicate without notes – action words can work since it's superhero and those are comic-y, but probably not notes.
Maybe you can use glowing signs or symbols or objects to show her searching/finding things. Maybe she's following glowing footsteps or some other type of clue in one? Maybe an object she has found is glowing in that same color? Maybe she uses an invisible (except to her) magnifying glass or – because she has the monocle – she can see things no one else can?

@KevinTreaccar @Eliana-Bastidas @Griffin @Stephanie-H
Thank you for your feedback, everybody. I am trying to make her superpower clearer through the visuals and got rid of most of the texts as you have rightly suggested. Let me know if they work better.I am still not sure about the last post (3/4 back) where she checks against the missing poster and realised she got the wrong thing. I'll work it out later before submitting but I am glad I tried to go out of my comfort zone with this superhero thing.

@ArtMelC I like the action lines on the non-lit up monocle in the closeup. It reminds me of Spider-Man’s Spidey-Sense.
I’m definitely connecting to monocle to what she’s seeing/looking for, too, now. I like the updates.

Alright, this is final for now and submitted... thank you so much everyone who has given feedback and suggestions
I learnt so much from doing this assignment.

@ArtMelC Awesome! Your idea is much clearer now. your character sheet even has a little story in it! Good luck in Critique Arena!
