Hello art friends! Here are the three concepts I'm toying with for this month's critique arena. I would really appreciate if you took a moment to let me know which one of these is your favorite or if you have any suggestions! Thank you! 🙂

      Kamari Thumbnails.jpg

A - Kamari discovers a rainbow. Montage travels across the page, following the rainbow. Suddenly another character pops out of the rainbow and invites Kamari to join them in the rainbow.

B - Kamari is on the edge of a cliff, pursued by a monster. A dragon flies up behind her. The dragon rider prepares to grab her backpack and lift her to safety.

C - Kamari encounters a monster. She shouts "Please don't eat me!" She hasn't noticed yet the "Adopt Me" ribbon tied to the monster's tail.

@baileyvidler These are great! 😊 The reason I voted for B is because you can understand what is happening instantly without the need for text (either in an explanation or in the image itself).

@ArtistErin @susanhowarth-art Interesting! I almost didn't even include that one! Now I'm glad that I did though!

Does it convey the "new beginning" part enough? I was kind of picturing the dragon and rider sweeping Kamari away into some crazy adventure, but I wasn't sure if that vibe would get across.

@baileyvidler I definitely got that vibe of a new adventure! Especially if the dragon looks friendly rather than menacing.

@baileyvidler I wonder how you can convey the new beginning... is the kid running away from the dragon in fear or some other emotion? Just wondering what the prior story is and how you can show that. Like he's reached his breaking point at school and the bigger kid is chasing him on the dinosaur? Just wondering how you might create that tension of ending one thing and moving into the new adventure...

Not trying to make this harder, just offering a new angle to consider...

@ArtistErin I totally agree! It felt like something was missing in the story.

I ended up reworking the monsters to be more specific. So, Kamari is carrying a glowing magic crystal that she stole from inside the cave and the mushroom monsters are chasing her to get it back. (Keeping in line with my personal goal of introducing as many kids to D&D as possible!)

I think the trickiest thing here was walking the line of making the monsters look monster-y but not too scary.

@baileyvidler Yes I see a much clearer story and the problem Kamari is in, along with how she got there, who the opposing characters are, and what she is anticipating... I love your sketches BTW...

                    🙂

@baileyvidler This one is my favorite! It's very engaging with all the different emotions that are present. Also, I can tell whats happening without any explanation. Makes me want to follow Kamari and see where that dragon and rider are taking her. Interesting idea.

Finished my Kamari piece! (And 10 days before the deadline, which is a miracle considering I usually wait until the last minute.) I'm super excited with how it turned out, thank you again everyone that provided feedback!
