I hope you will be able to make it. You won last time if I'm not mistaken.

      I love the concept

Fun concept. I like number 7 and 8. I like the idea of the wing breaking the border.

@smceccarelli I like the composition of 7 best followed closely by 6 and 8 - they are all nice but these stand out as the clearest

6, 7, and 8 read the clearest to me.

I like #7 best too, followed by 8 and then 6...I like the fact that in #7 you can see the whole line of the lasso, and the silhouette of the man in red is strongest. Great idea!

I like eight the best πŸ™‚ The winged donkey-pony are a clear focal point in this composition, and it tells a very interesting story. I like 7 too, but I think eight reads more immediately. Hoping you have time to finish this, even if it's not in time for third thursday πŸ™‚

I like 6 and 7! I prefer the horse in 7 but the flying contraption in 6 πŸ™‚

Thank you all for your input!! The winners are clearly the one with the clearest action. Yet, I am somewhat enamored with 5...Anybody to be convinced for that?
Meanwhile, since this illustration requires a lot of design work (characters, vehicle, comp, color, etc...), I have drafted something much simpler (taking a leaf out of Will TerryΒ΄s book) for Third Thursday that I may actually be able to finish in time....Input welcome! And of course the image is designed to make you wonder: who of the two is Thomas?

Now that I look at them better, number 5 is actually number 6, inverted and a little more compact. So I will go with number 6! Thank you everybody for your insight.

First and second pass. I am experimenting with different rendering processes - so not sure how far to bring this....

Nice work. I definitely feel the tension on this piece. Good story telling. The only thing I would add is that maybe I want to see a little clearer what the baby is after. What is so tempting that the baby just had to have it?

So, this is finished now and I will get back to the illustration with which I started this post before ending down another road. I am going to count this also towards the 100Kids project, since I experimented with a rendering style I am completely new to: digital watercolor, albeit with a very simplified approach (just one brush on ProCreate).
I made a short video that discusses the process a little and also shows the SketchUp maquette I used as reference. There has been some discussion about SketchUp on the forum (and Jake shows it in the course about Creative Environment Design). I use SketchUp quite often (and ZBrush too, though not recently) and really love how it helps to generate and refine ideas!
Anyhow, if you want to check out the video, it is linked here:
