100 trees challenge
-
Here comes tree number five. For my fairy tale project I need an apple tree meadow, so I am trying some more apple trees.
-
Just after uploading I noticed that the texture looks a bit dirty. I tried to change that a bit.
-
Another apple tree...
-
I think they are all looking great so far.
-
I absolutely love your challenge! Loving all those trees so far. My favorite tree is your first tree with the paper cut style and texture. Keep up the awesome work!
-
Thanks @Lee-Holland and @drawingmelee ! You are motivating me a lot.
Actually I planned to finish ten trees after this weekend, but I noticed this challenge will take for ever!
But I finished eight which I sum up here:
Thanks all your feedback so far. -
@Jana These are nice Jana! The last two look especially nice to me. I was thinking about what you said about Mary Blair - i love Mary Blair too - i think that if you cut and paste a tree of hers onto a blank canvas it will be nice but it will not have that emotion that it had in the composition (i'm sure i am stating the obvious here) Her trees have a relationship to the scene or the characters in the scene - edges often seem soft except when they are guiding your eye to the main focal point like a bunch of fingers saying "look here then look here and when you are done start over here again" - here colors seem to evoke a mood too - so i think maybe if you were trying to get to the same place as Mary Blair with the trees you could add a figure with a neutral expression and try to evoke a mood through color and composition while only using trees as your tools - anyways.... i am really enjoying seeing your trees!
-
@Kevin-Longueil You are totally right, Kevin. That is also what I asked myself: How would these trees behave in a complete composition, in which a character is a focal point and not the tree? Anyhow, I feel that this challenge is really pushing me further because I am forced to think about different shapes and different colors everytime. I also noticed that I get faster in drawing them. My hope is that while I am going through this challenge I find a style and a technique which I feel really comfortable with. In the next days I will try to set my donkey character next to the trees and see how they fit to each other.
-
@Jana your trees are looking so great! And I think the texture really helps and you have a handle on it now in your latest 8-tree-in-one post. I agree with @Kevin-Longueil that the last two really jumped out for me. I love the varying autumn colours in the 2nd to last one especially.
-
@DanetteDraws Thanks, Danette! That means really a lot to me. I also feel pretty good with the last two. I will go on with this style for a couple more to see how it goes in a long run. I feel that going not too much paper-cut style makes the trees more organic and less stiff.
-
The two last ones are also my favorite. Those autumn colors really stand out.
-
Here is tree number 9 and 10!
I am still trying to get some apple tree variations done. Here is an old and a young one.
-
@Jana These are very nice! I also really like the autumn trees with the different colours, really nice - though there are great shapes going on in all of them
-
Thank you @Dulcie! I also totally fell in love with the autumn colors. I am really motivated to make an autumn landscape soon.
-
Hi, guys! This time I tried some of these weirdly cutted park trees. I guess they are called boxwood in english? In German we call it Buchsbaum. I always liked them in Disneys Sleeping Beauty. There are plenty of these cubic trees. What do you think?
-
@Jana Very interesting take on your previous trees. My favorite is the first one!
-
@drawingmelee Thanks a lot. I also like the first best
-
Hi! I tried a winter tree today. Does that work? What do you think?
-
@Jana I am really enjoying following along. I love the recent set of boxwood's and I love this winter one even more. Really fun and beautiful designs!
-
@Rich-Green Thank you, Rich! That means a lot to me. You guys are really super motivating. I am happy that I can share this with you.
I didn't expect that I will enjoy this challenge so much. Since I am doing it, I have noticed that I look different at trees around me. When I walk home from my lab, I often wonder how would I draw this or that kind of tree.
