I'll see what it looks like with some shading and perhaps textures after I've tried some more colour schemes.

Recently did a deer floral motif which combined vectors in Affinity Designer and work in Photoshop to make embroidery stitches. Here is the progress of that for anyone interested.

Vectors are a lot of fun! Nearly all of my digital work is done with vectors. You've got some beautiful stuff here. I just wanted to mention, I like to add texture by using Opacity Masks instead of taking it into a raster program, that way I can do all my work in Illustrator instead of having to jump around. Opacity Masks can be finicky but once you figure them out they're a useful tool, so I just thought I'd mention that :-).

Just thought I'd mention: I can do the raster and vector stuff all in Affinity Designer, it has vector drawing workspace and pixel drawing workspace for when I want to add textures / digital painting. The brushes are ok, but I still find Photoshop brushes better to paint with for now which is why I still go into photoshop. -
I thought I'd do this tortoise project as primarily a way to practice and learn more skills and test different styles.

I love what your doing so far! If you ever want inspiration There is a book called Bézier and you can veiw the artwork here! I had the chance to be part of the book and you'll find many inspirational artists working in the vector style.

Another picture in the tortoise series. This is turning out to be fun and good practice so I'm going to stick with it for a while longer and then do some different animals.
I just wanted to say I got a book the other day called Vector Graphics and Illustration by RotoVision publishers which has some good tips and interviews in it. Can anyone recommend some good books or tutorials on Vector Illustration?

That tortoise is adorable, he looks like an `80s (or maybe early 90's ) nostalgia tortoise.
When I was learning vectors it really helped me to recreate famous works of art or photos that I liked (a lot of the books and tutorials I've read center around doing master copies). That allowed me to focus on skill building because it was just a matter of how to get from point A to point B. Also, it's kind of meditative once you get into it (I'm lying it will make your hair fall out but you will learn a lot). It was great training for when I wanted to turn my own artwork into vectors since I prefer to start on paper.because art imitates life and life is beautiful

Hello Christine love the Tortoise!!!!! It looks like your vector work is coming along nicely, i am a huge fan of vector, i work alot that way. Once you get the hang it, it really is great.......here is a book and a guy that are great for vector stuff!

I grew up in the 90s so maybe its subconscious. I like to draw my designs first on paper as well, my mind tends to go blank on the computer if I have no plan. I thought I'd hate doing vectors but like you say it is quite meditative. -
