Cherry Blossom

I'm not great at photorealism. Everything I draw has a hint of cartoon, but alas, I still try!
-
What a nice fresh spring feeling! I guess you can get rid of the cartoony look by avoiding the black line art. More details would make it also more photorealistic.
-
Nothing wrong with not doing photo realism! This looks really nice! But yes, as Jana said, I think the black lines are really what gives it the more cartoony look. Its a little bit odd that everything has them except for the pink leaves of the tree. If there were some lines there I think it would look more consistent. Is this digital? If so, what program/brushes did you use? I like the textures a lot.
-
@Sarah-LuAnn Yes this is digital. I drew/painted it all in photoshop using a standard round brush for the lines, and a set of digital watercolor brushes.
-
@Jana Thanks for the feedback. Ditching the line art would make it look less cartoony. Line art is a crutch for me. I worry that without it I won't be able to convey what I want to convey.

I think painting over your outlines could be a good practice, then you can concentrate on your forms to define objects in the scene.

Nice work! . Try tho give it some strong shades and see the magic happens!
-
@Steve-Young Good call. I'll give that a whirl

@Leontine-Gaasenbeek Thanks for the tip!
